Mistook end of contract date!

I thought I was out of contract and wanted to get rid of satellite TV so looked for suitable alternative supplier. I signed up with Virgin Media, but when I discovered I had made a mistake with my contract end date due to an extension of my fibre system less than a year ago, I told Virgin Media I would not be moving from Sky imminently and they agreed. Sky keep sending me emails telling me I am being terminated soon and would have to pay a termination fee. I did have one conversation with a Sky rep about a week ago who said he could not stop the termination it would have to be done by Virgin Media! But I do not have any contract with Virgin Media and cannot get to speak to anyone there. What is more, I cannot get to speak to anyone at Sky now either. All the routes through the menus do not lead me to anywhere I can let Sky know that I am not moving until I have completed my contract.  The Virtual Assistant is a waste of time for my problem!

@Shoebuurymike were you planning on switching broadband as well as TV? Virgin can't cancel your Sky TV service.

Yes! I was going to move to full broadband and TV with landline, just as I have with Sky.

It's the broadband early termination charges that Sky are referring to, then.

We've seen here before that if you initiate a switch with another provider, they have to cancel it (Sky can't do it, because it's flagged on their system as a switch in progress which prevents them doing anything). So you need to speak to Virgin to get them to stop it.

Re: Mistook end of contract date!

I don't think it will happen, actually! The switch should have stopped when I agreed with Virgin Media I was not prepared to change supplier until contract end with Sky, and admitted to them my mistake! My main problem with both companies is the lack of two way communication. As with most big businesses these days, they are quite happy sending out snottograms one way from email addreses with a 'noreply' tag on. There should be a law against it!

...and unless you told Sky to cancel the TV service then you still have it.  (As already noted, VM cannot do this)

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers
