Re: Loss of Eurosport
@Stuart9964 wrote:Why could Sky not come to some sort of deal with Warner Brothers? and why do Sky charge so much more than Virgin media. It is easy to say that Sky aren't to blame but it seems to me they must be making something from the movement of Eurosport to TNT Sports and if they aren't why is it so much more expensive?
I've mentioned above but Virgin subscription is just the channels, Sky the channels plus Discovery+ Premium so you can watch on other devices and on demand, unless this has recently changed.

The decision to close Eurosport was taken by the channel owners (Warner Brothers Discovery) and was publicly announced at the end of January 2025 and was widely reported by national media Here , the decision applies to all uk/roi tv platforms and not just sky
it would be the responsibility of WBD to communicate the changes to customers not sky
an extensive thread discussing the closure was created on the 28th January which can be found Here
Any grievance is best directed at WBD

Hi @Stuart9964 What a strange thing to say, if by losing the income from hosting two WB channels how can they make something?

Re: Loss of Eurosport
Hu Stuart, Totally agree this is a real rip off why keep blaming WB, it's Sky who should be looking to sort this but they won't they are quite happy taking our money. I'm not going to bang on about it any longer except to say I will be looking at alternative providers.

@ceb2 What exactly do you think Sky can do? They can't force the content owners to stay on the Sky platform.
People blame WBD because it's 100% their decision, no-one else's and certainly not the fault of any UK provider.

Re: Loss of Eurosport
Look I'm not going to keep going on about it but to me Sky must take some responsibility in my opinion. People keep saying it's just Warner Brothers to blame but that still does not explain the price discrepancy between Virgin Media and Sky to receive TNT Sports and to say this is down to Sky also providing Discovery+ has nothing to do with it as all I am talking about is TNT Sports. Anyway that is my opinion and everyone is allowed their own opinion.

The price discrepancy between VM and Sky for TNT sports is likelky due to the Virgin deal only including the TNT Sports TV channels and NOT including the Discovery + Premium tier, which is the tier required for the Sports content on Discovery +. Subscribing to Discovery + premium costs £31/month if you went direct so that would explain the difference in pricing. If you aren't interested in being able to watch sports via Discovery + then the Virgin deal sounds like a good deal.

Re: Loss of Eurosport
@Stuart9964 You keep saying Sky must take some responsibility but exactly how?
They have no say at all in what other content owners do with their content, would you expect your local supermarket to shoulder some responsibility if a brand they stock suddenly decides to stop producing a certain item you regularly buy?
As for the price difference between Sky and Virgin well that's largely down to the service levels being different, you being unwilling to acknowledge that does not change the facts.

Re: Loss of Eurosport
What a load of rubbish. For a start you would go to a different supermarket because you wouldn't be held to a contract. And as for the service level. All I was talking about was TNT Sports not the whole Discovery+ app which is already included in your Sky package.

No amount of moaning here about it will make any difference. If you think you have a valid complaint go ahead and raise it with Sky.

Re: Loss of Eurosport
Many people are well aware who decided to close Eurosport in the UK, but It is not warner bros that have decided to raise the price of subscriptions and for fewer channels. Although it was WB decision it is Sky who provided the service and I feel sky should have at least communicated it to subscribers. I for one will be cancelling Movies and cancelling Childrens at least when my contract expires in june, to put it towards TNT. Gutted as I will only watch a fraction of what is on there. I feel for those who have renewed their contracts recently without knowing.

Sky only provide the platform, not the service itself.

Possibly, an email wouldn't have hurt. It was posted on this very forum (although I accept those without issues tend not to need it)

Re: Loss of Eurosport
And subscribers pay for that platform to Sky. I don't pay WB so it is not up to them to inform Sky subscribers that the channel will close. Sky are very quick to send an email when the prices are going up.

Re: Loss of Eurosport
No an email to customers would be easy to do . I'm a platinum sky user but will be looking at other tv packages once contract is up for renewal. I think sky has poor customer service service

I don't work for Sky and therefore have no idea how easy it would be to do. There would undoubtedly be a cost involved.
