Length of Contract

I've been a subscriber to Sky for over 20 years and during that time Sky have changed the contract period to two years

I don't think it's right for Sky to insist on a two year contract.

Furthmore if you decide to change anything on your Sky package the two period starts all over again

I think to be fair to all parties that this should be reduced to 12 months.

@Peter685  Sky are not alone in this, most service providers have 24 month contracts

As is perfectly normal within contract law

as customers we have a choice accept the terms or more on

Re: Length of Contract

What you think is right and what the business model is are never going to gel.

Would you be happy to pay more for a shorter contract as you do now if you are on a rolling month-to-month arrangement?

You can always leave and go elsewhere for a better deal, but in most cases that honeymoon period doesn't last beyond the first renewal.

If you don't like the offered contract terms then you don't have to accept it...  2 years does seem to be the industry norm nowadays.

The only alternative is a rolling contract with 31 days notice.  (But no discounts)

@Peter685

And the benefit of it changing from 18 months to 24 months is you don't have to contact Sky so often to negotiate a new discount.

It’s a double edged sword in a way as if Sky shorten contract lengths there would be no way they would be able to offer the level of discounts they can currently offer to subscribers when they renew.

Also the reason that when you make a change it reconstructs you is because side you have to have the base TV package in order to have the add-ons eG Sky Cinema or Sky Sports so if you take out Sky Sports on a 2 year deal they have to recontract the entire TV contract.

Personally I prefer 2 years over 18 months - but you won't please everyone...

I agree - I think it's easier to remember when the contract period is up when it's 2 years as opposed to 18 months.

Comcast Corporation stockholders may disagree: short contracts mean greater churn and consequently increased operating costs.
