In contract cancellation

I recently called to cancel my TV package but was told I can't. My contract ends in August, but I have been offered a similar package with another company for much cheaper. I am willing to pay an early termination fee. Can anyone advise how to end my TV subscription early? Thanks 😊

The latest T’s and C’s explicitly state you can’t cancel when still in a minimum term deal unless Sky agree. If they agree you’ll have to pay the remainder of your discounted term.

The fee, as I understand it, would be the same as the remaining contract cost so there's no point.

Re: In contract cancellation

So basically, I would pay the same amount as I would for the next 6 months anyway? And that's only if Sky agreed to me leaving the contract early?

Yes.  This is why you get discounts as you agreed to a minimum period.  You don't get the change your mind prior to that contract term expiring.  If you want flexibility to leave (and this applies to most telecom firms) then don't agree discounts and pay full list price instead.

That argument fails the basic "no one would choose to move somewhere they can only get 5Mbps" intelligence test 😉

@Padam_Padam Someone taking your advice could be seen as committing a type of fraud, is that really the way you think people should go?

Deliberately lying in an attempt to get out of a contract simply unacceptable behaviour.

Re: In contract cancellation

Thank you everyone for answering. My intention was not to start a debate. I will just stay, there's no point leaving if the cost is going to be equal. I can leave in 6 months. Thanks again 😊
