@MD51 if they're simply suggesting you take a look at Black Friday deals, I don't see an issue?

Re: I received a call from sky

I always air on the side of caution and it sounded way to dodgy for me personally, i called sky and was informed that my bill wasn't going up 10% and No notes were on my account as being called ? Also regardless of where in the world sky call someone from the email facility is available (to confirm and changes to subscription) interesting

Re: I received a call from sky

Thus happened to us. The supposedly sky call asked about 2 top of the range phones that I ordered. Which I hadn't ordered. Lo and behold the phones turned up so I contacted sky and arranged to send them back. When Royal Mail turned up, the return address wasn't sky. So I called fraud dept and they took the situation over.
best thing to do is hang up and call sky back  on one of their other numbers. As sky said they change their phone numbers periodically. Or if you have sky mobile, call 150.

Re: I received a call from sky

A lot of people saying these numbers are kosher and from sky are involved in the scam, be vigilant and careful, call sky back on a dedicated number and verify who you are talking to or conversing with

Yes, that's a well-known scam. Absolutely right to call Sky on a number you've obtained yourself from the Sky website.

Re: I received a call from sky

Just received this call from the same number claiming to be from Sky [13th November 2024].  It all seemed quite plausible until they asked me to confirm my password - my recollection is that most on-line service providers ask you to confirm individual letters of the password instead of asking for the full password.  Asking for a password always seems like a red flag.

Yes and no.

Sky do ask for your TELEPHONE password (a memorable word) for authorisation.  (This is not your online account password)

But any request for your online account password is a red flag indeed.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

@FireballXL52018

In Skys case it's the telephone password they're requesting in order to verify you are the account holder. That needs to be provided in full. My advice would be to provide an incorrect password and if the response appears to indicate that it is correct you know it's a scam.

Re: I received a call from sky

I do think this is a little problematic - I receive an unsolicited call from a number that I don't recognise and the first question is "please tell me your Sky password?".

When I google the number, up pops a number of messages about how this may or may not be a scam.

That really doesn't seem like state of the art security!

Re: I received a call from sky

I had a "courtesy" call today from this number. When I asked them to verify my password, as they would if I called them, and he hung up...

Re: I received a call from sky

Hi, best thing to do is hang up, don't forget foreign call centers (No disrespect) get hacked and calls are highjacked and piggy backed by scammers (the calls come through as genuine sky contact phone numbers) they could ask for remote access to your account (via laptops phones etc) DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN becausebankingdetailsprivateinformation couldbe accessed, hang up call sky and check to see if notes have been left on your account 🤔 oh don't be afraid to call them out as scammers during the call and see what response you get, some will hang up straight away more experience scammers will try and stick it out, good luck
