Why are they making unsolicited calls its harassment

Many of the comments on this thread is scammers pretending to be Sky.  Yes, harassment but it's not Sky...

And for Sky, what does their Privacy Notice say about it?

Re: I received a call from sky

I had a call from this number this morning too, knw my name and rang my mobile which few people have. Said something about reducing bill and upping speeds, I said not interested as thought was a scammer , only after looking up the number to block do i see it's Sky or a Sky number. Strange to get the calls now as I've only signed to Sky this month so that's where they'd get my number, called from  freephone 761 3372

Re: I received a call from sky

I receive daily calls from this number. It is borderline harassment.
These calls continued even after I had taken out a new 2 year contract myself. As I was fed up receiving the calls I answered, I was told they wanted to help reduce my monthly bills. I proceeded to tell them I'd just taken out a new 2 year contract (given that Sky completely messed up my renewal despite me being proactive and pragmatic about it), so I'd be interested to see how they'd reduce these bills? They hung up half way through my sentence.
Really poor experience of Sky all round this past few months

I also received a call from Sky trying to up sell and I said I wasn't interested in sports. The gentleman on the other end of the phone just put thye phone  down no politeness whatsoever  only interested in his commission in my opinion

Re: I received a call from sky

It's scammers piggybacking off sky's telephone numbers they just want your banking details don't fall for it, even give them incorrect information ie passwords etc if it goes unchallenged then it's a scam

Re: I received a call from sky

I had a call from this number, sounded very dodgy said was from Sky and could reduce my bills. I said I dont trust him and ended call. The only time I've saved money with Sky is when I tell them im leaving!

Re: I received a call from sky

The call I received today is not from Sky, a bit of detective work using the tools I have in my day job confirmed this.

I'd recommend exercising caution around any call from this number

The telephone password, yes.  That is the correct process...  (One option is to give the incorrect password to see what they say)

However, your account password, very much no!

@sarag75

I think your post was removed by the forum filters due to you posting the number in full.

From Skys own website

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/received-call-from-08007613372

Of course any number can be spoofed.

@sarag75

Try giving them the wrong telphone password and then see what happpens, if that was Sky they would tell you about it...

Re: I received a call from sky

I received a call from this number today from someone with a very heavily foreign accented voice that was very hard to understand.  Same reason as before, wanted to reduce my bills and also give me benefits.  After supplying him with my address, he asked for my password,  not just letters from the password.  This seemed suspicious, so I told him no way was I telling him my password to identify myself, when I was just supposed to trust him when he said he was from Sky.

According to this forum, it's a genuine number, but could it have been spoofed by a scammer?

@Chookgate

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll be a scam call.

Re: I received a call from sky

Yes it can be spoofed or piggybacking from scammers they piggybacking VPNs so it looks like the call is local or from sky, as other people have said 'give incorrect information' if this goes unchallenged it's definitely a scam, phone scams that ultimately end up asking for money or bank details are upto 75 billion now, sourced from Mariana Van Zeller
