If you're a new customer two payments have to go through before you can change the date to one more convenient.

If your next bill is due to be paid in the next 14 days or less then the date change will not apply until the following months bill.

...and note it doesn't just change your date - it completely recalculates your bill on a pro-rata basis so the next bill can be higher or lower depending on the timing.
