I am being charged £100 for my tv & broadband

Hi ,

I have been a loyal sky customer for almost 6 years now . Originally I was on a pretty affordable tariff as a new customer , however eventually my monthly prices went up to £60 per month as I was on a tarrif / plan that no longer existed . Eventually the prices went up to £70 and now £100! On the best of days my Internet connection is slow 🐌 fibre cable or not . I have tried to discuss this shocking and sudden price jump with the customer service team and wanted to negotiate a lower price however for some reason loyalty is.not even a thing anymore . I have also recently found out that they offer discounts for customers who receive benefits called the social tariff . Anyone have any idea or experience with this and how can I switch to this.or negotiate a better price as £100 is robbing their loyal customers blind ! It's completely unheard of ! What a disgrace . Any tips would be much appreciated.

@Said24  Social tariff applies to broadband only and then if you receive certain benefits.

You would need to call Sky to negotiate a better deal and would be for a new minimum term (Social tariff is for 12 months only if eligible).

You can call on 150 from a Sky Talk Line or Sky Mobile.

If you haven't got a current Sky Mobile or Sky Talk this link should help:
(UK) https://www.sky.com/help/home Scroll down and click on ‘Need more help’ and it provides a 0333 number
(ROI) on the same link change the flag in the very bottom corner to the ROI flag to obtain an 0818 number.

Stay on the line and don’t hang up if prompted to. Apparently the quieter times to ring are just after 7am or about 9pm.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

@Said24
This link explains the process if you’re eligible for Sky Broadband Basics.
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-social-tariff

The Sky account holder
needs to be claiming Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income Support, Income based Jobseekers Allowance or Income based Employment Support Allowance. These are the only qualifying benefits and in order for Sky to carry out checks with DWP they will need your NI number. The social tariff is for Sky Broadband Superfast 35 with an average download speed of 36Mb/s and the Sky Talk Pay As You Go tariff (ie: all calls are chargeable). It does not offer a discounted Sky Talk plan.

Broadband Basics is only available to customers who already have Sky Broadband and to add the Sky Mobile offer, you’ll need to be taking Sky Broadband Basics, and:
a) Already have Sky Mobile and a 3GB data plan.
b) Or you can add a new 3GB data plan with Sky Mobile.
The linked Sky mobile deal is only for 12 months.

If you are eligible you’ll need to call Sky to join. There is no equivalent offer for TV. The broadband part of the social tariff now lasts for 24 months and then reverts to the full cost but if you’re still eligible you will then need to re-apply.

Re: I am being charged £100 for my tv & broadband

Hi,

I am not sure if you have resolved your issue since it was months ago!

I actually switched to Sky because I was having similar issues with BT. I had been with BT for 6+ years, but couldn't get out of contract: I moved house quite often, and each time I moved, they restarted my contract because the deals available at the new address were different. They were also worse. They also refused to let me downgrade at any point (I had previously got deals with wifi extenders I needed in one house, but not the new flat, etc). I was paying over £50/month for just broadband (not even full fibre).

I have now switched to Sky and pay a little over £30 for the same speed. I am hoping to get on the social tariff too as I receive UC.

This is all just to say... sadly, this seems to be how broadband works now. Hopefully I will manage to get the social tariff and won't need to constantly switch provider to keep the price bearable.
