How can Sky justify an increase of over 25% for my package?

I currently have a TV and broadband package, costing me £42.50 a month.  I've been with Sky since moving in on my own after a marriage break up 6 yrs ago.  
Theyve now given me total costs of £53.50 for my new contract, an increase of over 25%.  How can they justify this?
Yet they are also advertising a contract at £26 pm for TV and Netflix, and £12 a month for broadband, for NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY.  
Why are they allowed to offer better prices to new customers than to loyal existing customers, I was under the impression this had been stopped?
Well they can say goodbye to me because I just cannot afford an addtional £11 a month!!!!

The level of discounts of late seem lower than previous.

 

If you are not happy with the offered price then you do need to vote with your feet I'm afraid - bear in mind your new provider will likely do the same when their introductory offer expires...

If you are not happy with the offered price then you do need to vote with your feet I'm afraid - bear in mind your new provider will likely do the same when their introductory offer expires...

The insurance industry can't offer different deals to existing and new customers ( and on a temporary measure the same applies to the energy industry, although its widely expected to become a permanent thing at some point). However this doesn't apply to the subscriptoin TV or broadband industry.

I've now gone onto a rolling contract with them, just paying £5 per month for their TV streaming package, ie Freeview, until I transfer to another company, probably Virgin where, for £39 a month, I can get broadband and 190 TV channels, including some Sky channels!!!

Yup, just remember to factor in the annual increase in April and that the price will leap at the end of their contract...

I've just left Sky too, after 17 years with them.

Gone over to Virgin for £26.50 per month and when checking the transfer speeds I got a nice surprise.  I'd been paying for 'Fibre' with Sky but was puzzled as to why it was coming in via the (copper) phone line.  Virgin came and installed a new Fibre line into the house free of charge.  Fired up the router and, while working in parralel, checked the Sky speeds and then the Virgin speeds.

 

Sky 'SuperFast' - £43 PCM.  68.50mbps Download.  14.67mbps Upload.  33ms Ping

Virgin 'M125' - £26.50 PCM 127.30mbps Download.  20.85mbps Upload.  21ms Ping.

 

Hmm, nothing 'SuperFast' about that Sky broadband.  Nearly twice as expensive and virtually half the speed.  Bye bye Sky.  Just got to figure out how to get a UAC to transfer my phone number over now.  I'm sure they'll make it as difficult as possible 😞

OpenReach have various levels of service.  Sounds like you were on FTTC - where fibre is run to the cabinet but copper to your house.  If you can have a FTTP then fibre runs right up to your house - but availability depends on the area.

 

Virgin do not run fibre to your premises.  They run copper too but is coax that allows much faster speeds.  I'm also with M125 but am approaching the end of my new customer deal and they want to rocket the price...

same here , Just relised i had come to the end of my contaract and mine has gone up over 50% from £94 for everything (son paid for sports cinema and extra box for his room) to £145, phoned up to see what they could do and take off the broadband because i'd signed up to 500mb full fibre with another provider for £24 because there is no Sky or BT full fibre in my village until 2027 and they were trying to charge £45.50 for 65mb and the cheapest price they could offer is £94 without broadband.
