Getting charged early termination Charges

My Broadband was up for renewal so I renewed I was inform that I would be entering a new minimum term which I was ok with. 

A few days later I switched to talk talk, Returned my equipment which they confirmed they've received. I was charged £29 for period between renewing and cancelling. 

I've now received an email saying I am been charged £269 early termination fee.

How can this be when I cancelled with the 31 day cooling off period ?

It's the same contract, so I'm not sure that a cooling off period applies.

If that's the case why did they charge me £29 from the usage up to the day the contract ended

That was for the first few days of your new minimum term, before you cancelled.

Well it looks like I am paying £296 then. I wonder if they can spread the cost onto my monthly sky tv bill

After speaking to an advisor they have removed the charges.
