Failure of card details to go through when paying for upfront costs

Hi All,

I just had a very frustrating and concerning phone call with Sky while updating my Sky package. I was asked to provide debit card details to pay for an outstanding balance - when I did - the number constantly failed to go through. This was my 16 digit number and more concerning, my CVV number.

I got pretty upset that the Sky representative kept asking me to input as it wasn't registering on their system - against my better judgement, I complied for a bit but started getting genuinely concerned providing my banking details over and over again.

Is this the correct procedure for Sky? If so - it is VERY concerning that the system is so flakey. We are constantly told to be careful with our banking details - and yet SKY is asking for these very same details in a seemingly haphazard way?

SKY - anything to respond on this? Are my card details secure? Have your call centre staff been trained on handling the details safely?

Left the call - with no payment made, a request to wait for them to call again so they can take the details again. This has scam written all over it doesn't it??

Did you call Sky for this or did someone call you?

Re: Failure of card details to go through when paying for upfront costs

I originally called Sky - had to go through a number of different calls due to moving house etc. When it came time to pay the outstanding - the system wouldn't take my card number. I agreed to a call back from the same consultant - which is where the further payment issues occured.

Apparently the system doesn't show the details when you type them in - but my 'slow descending brain in to old manhood' immediately jumped to scam.

As long as you called Sky on the official number then it won't be a 'scam'.
