Does this sound legit? Or a potential scam?

Hello. Looking for advice. My elderly, partially sighted mother in law received a cold call at her door yesterday from a chap with a Sky lanyard. He said that her dish cabling was old and copper and needed replaced and he'd arrange for it to be done on Friday at 2pm for free.

The guy then went next door and tried to entice them with a new sky package.

This has sent warning bells and I tried to ring Sky to check if this was legitimate but the call centre chap was of little, in fact no, help!

Normally I'd just turn up at the time stated and check it out myself but my wife and I need to be at an important hospital appointment at the same time.

what is the likely authenticity of this? Should I tell her to simply not answer the door or just tell him she's changed her mind? I'm concerned because she has a bit of a history of falling for the gift of the gab and has narrowly avoided being scammed a few times in spite of our warnings to say no, don't trust cold callers, etc.

@Dab-dab  I think there is some mix up here, whilst satellite cable is a copper cable it does not need replacing as will continue to function long after the satellites in space expire.

It's more likely he could have been referring to a copper phone line being replaced for Fibre, however the fact he claimed it would be done within such a short period would be fanciful as any upgrade even if Fibre is available would be at least 10 working days from placing an order directly wth Sky let aone any sales person at the door.

Or was he trying to get them to move from Sky+HD (where you have posted) to Sky Q or Sky stream?

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

@Dab-dab

It could be broadband related as described in this link from Sky

No she is not a Sky broadband customer, just TV HD+. He specifically pointed to and referred to her satellite dish.
