I've just purchased the LGC3 OLED. Currently only have my sky Q box connected using the traditional 2.0 HDMI. The picture seems a little grainy, and when watching football there is a blur around the players. Would upgrading to HDMI 2.1 make much of a difference?

No in regards to your picture quality. If you're getting blur then you need to either turn off your motion settings or maybe give cinematic a try @Matt187

HDMI 2.0 will be good enough and the only time you could need 2.1 is if you're using eARC for Dolby Atmos.
I think your issue could be a result and f some settings that need tweaking.
Unfortunately these will most likely be on your TV as newer TV's allow you to change lots of settings for each individual HDMI connection

Getting a 2.1 cable should be considered if when watching Dolby Vision/Atmos content the screen goes black😉
If you've got a steady image that never cuts out the current HDMI cable is adequate🤔
If you had a Apple 4K TV box you could run a cable check to validate the HDMI cable.

@Dazzasky Thanks for your reply. The motion setting is turned off completely yet there still seems to be a little blurry bubble around players. Is this normal?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've only had a the TV a couple days but have been disappointed when watching content such as football on Sky (blurry bubble around players even with motion turned off) and some older films. I'm guessing that's just because they are not filmed in 4K? I just expected things to look much sharper so wondered if it was the old HDMI

I followed a video to turn off recommend setting and watching in filmmaker mode. The sports mode make the pitch go almost toxic green. Unwatchable

@Matt187 Film Maker mode needs to be on as this will then turn off all the digital trickery that create a super sharp image but make everything look like a 1980's soap opera. This is actually a thing and is called the soap opera effect. It annoyed movie directors so much they all complained to the tv manufacturers and thus, Film Maker mode was born...
Back to your colours though, you'll unfortunately just have to tinker with your tv. New OLED and QLED tv's have such ridiculous levels of tweaking so that the user can personalise them to their own tastes. But some manufacturers have better default settings than others.

@Nigelb1972 Sometimes worth having a good Oled pro calibrated although have to say my LG G2 is superb in Film Maker mode using out of the box settings. I'm sure it could be tweaked by a Pro Calibrator but is it enough to justify the extra cost, not sure.

@Floydianslip our Samsung QLED is excellent too. I still get a little blurry around players on PS5 FIFA but that's down to some digital trickery on the TV that I've not managed to turn off yet without upsetting Game Mode.... I'm still tinkering after 8 months of ownership 🤣

@Matt187 some people will prefer the toxic green colour but others prefer a more natural colour. You might need to go into the individual colour & brightness settings and have a tinker in there but be warned, there's a lot of things to tinker. Or you could go down the professional calibration route. OLED and QLED tv's are now just plug and play if you want the best quality picture... They are great though 👌🏻

Ok. I just seems odd to have a blur around the players. Unable to see their faces (I know that sounds crazy) but atm almost feels like there's something up with the tv having applied most of the settings people have advised. Thanks for your help

It's probably just video compression. If you're watching football in HD via a Q box (this is a Glass/Stream forum) then it will be upscaled either by the Q box or your TV to 4K.
Q boxes are now quite old technology & are less good at upscaling as many smart TVs. Try setting the output of your Q box to 1080i, the native HD resolution, and see if it looks any better.
