I had a call this morning from "Sky". The gentleman said he would like to go through some offers that were available to me that I had not taken. Naturally suspicious I asked him for some of my details so I could be sure he was a Sky employee. He gave me a choice of three questions including full name, address or how long I had been a sky customer. He correctly answered the length of time I have been with Sky. I was still unsure so I terminated the call. On January 9th I had an email from Sky making some adjustments to my account resulting in a saving for me which I was pleased to receive. I have also dates in my diary from my last contract renewal when it is suggested call Sky to see what further adjustments can possibly be made.
I do not understand why someone from Sky would call me now. It is all very suspicious so beware.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreWas it an 0800 number ending 3372? If so that is a genuine outgoing number from Sky.
Please don't replicate the number which called you.

You say stay safe and don't share any information but got cold called from a supposed sky employee from India telling me about all my account information and saying I could save money but then asked me to confirm my password. Surely your not asking people who are cold called about account for password information as that is the route all scammers take.

Sky have to ask for your telephone password to ensure they are talking to the account holder as anyone could have answered your phone when they called. It's standard practise and is required for security verification purposes.
If you are unsure if it really is Sky calling then the simple answer is to give the wrong telephone password at first. If they aren't Sky they won't know the password is wrong, if they are they will know the password is incorrect and will tell you this and you can then give the correct telephone password to continue the conversation should you wish.

@Rickevs The password Sky ask for the on the phone is just the telephone password you set up with them anyway, not the password you use to login to your account online. They won't ask for your bank account details to be confirmed either.

A few comments, resulting from a cold call from "India" this morning, and trying to decide if genuine from Sky:
1) Checking the number they're calling from is meaningless - that can be faked.
2) Asking for my password is a crazy security breach if that is routine.
3) Asking for mother's maiden name equally.
