I got a phone out in my name for my friend. But I have noticed he has started to miss payments is there any way I can put the phone in his name and have nothing to do with it.

Nope, there is nothing you can do as it isn't possible to transfer the ownership of a phone.

Only if you are within the first 30 days of the contract which I presume you are not.
If you are the account holder and have access to it, you can change the payment method to your own so the money is taken from you.
