Cancelling Sky TV

Hello

I have sent the following email to the My Sky email address.

I hereby give you formal and official notice that I am cancelling the above account - xxxxxx, effective 31 days hence. If you do not respond, I will cancel my direct debit and use this email as evidence that I have done so.

Does this cover me legally to cancel the DD if they do not respond?

Many thanks

Jonathan

Cancelling or not cancelling your direct debit isn't a legal issue but you should never cancel it until after you have left as the chances are there will be a credit on your account that can not be refunded if you do cancel it so they would have to issue a cheque instead which can takes months to be sent. Also billing continues as normal during your cancellation notice period.

Although you can send am email as you have done they will still need to contact you as per this:

We can’t cancel your Sky services until we’ve confirmed you’re the authorised account holder, so we may need to call you back to process your request. Don't worry, your notice period will start from the date we receive your letter or email.

Don't think so. You need to physically speak to Sky so that they can verify your identity before your cancellation can be processed.

Re: Cancelling Sky TV

OK - many thanks, that is very helpful. But, since I have provided notice to them, are they not now obliged to respond? I do not wish to call them and waste my money unless I absolutely have to.

Most likely the reply will invite you to call.

If it helps you can use the chat option via the 'need more help' button here: https://www.sky.com/help/home/your-account/my-account-and-subscription/cancelling/cancel-my-subscrip...

The opti0ns take a few seconds to populate.

I did try that Mark39, but I couldn't find any way out of the loop. It just gives the same info again and again.

@Jonathan7176

I've just gone through exactly the same process.
They do reply to the email within a day or two, but it comes from a  Sky email address that went to my junk folder, so check yours.

It includes a shortcut contact us link to call them on. Calling that went straight to the right people and was very quick and easy for me.
