Cancelled sky tv to just keep sky broadband and they have continued to charge me

I TRIED TO CANCEL MY SKY TV SUBSCRIPTION AND JUST HAVE SKY BROADBAND..THIS WAS NEARLY A YEAR AGO. WHILST ON THE PHONE THEY OFFERED ME A 'TO GOOD TO BE TRUE" OFFER OF BROADBAND AND BASIC TV PACKAGE OF £36 FOR THE WHOLE YEAR!! I ACCEPTED AND THEY SENT ME A NEW SJY BOX IN THE MAIL . I HADN'T GOT AROUND TO SETTING UP THE NEW BOX WHEN I SAW I HAD BEEN CHARGED THAT MONTH AS NORMAL (TWO PAYMENTS , ONE FOR £23.80 AND £18 FOR SKY TV ! ) THEY HAD LIED TO ME ! I RANG AND THEY TOLD ME TO SEND THE BOX BACK IN THE MAIL AND THEY WOULD CANCEL , NO EXPLANATION OF THE ONE-OFF YEARLY PAYMENT ? ( I AM 81 AND MY HUSBAND , WHO DIED DURING COVID ALWAYS PAID THE BILLS ) I WAS UPSET.. ONLY RECENTLY AFTER SETTING UP MOBILE BANKING DID I REALISE THAT THEY HAVE BEEN CHARGING ME THIS WHOLE TIME !! TWO SEPERATE PAYMENTS WHEN I DON'T EVEN HAVE SKY TV . IF ANYONE HAS ADVICE AND PLEASE, HOW MUCH IS JUST SKY BROADBAND A MONTH ? THAT IS ALL I HAVE !! AND NEED. THANK YOU.

I HAVE SWITCHED TO JUST SKY BROADBAND , JUST TO VERIFY HOW MUCH IS SKY BROADBAND A MONTH PLEASE ?

Could somebody please clarify how much sky broadband ( no TV or extras ) is per month. Many thanks Jan x

It wouldn't have been £36 for the year. Sky don't offer yearly deals and simply wouldn't be able to offer a deal at that price. Do you mean £36 per month for 24 months?

Unless you cancelled in the cooling off period you're stuck in a minimum term deal and can't cancel now due to the terms and conditions you agreed to.

 

The price of the broadband will be set at whatever price you negotiated at the time including your Sky Talk landline package which can vary depending on the tariff you have. All subscriptions are subject to the usual annual price increase which for UK customers is in April, so there was one in April 2025 and there'll be another in April 2026.

 

Did you receive email confirmation from Sky of the cancellation of your TV package?

@Janette44 you need to call Sky and complain formally as explained here How to make a Sky complaint | Sky Help | Sky.com

 

The price of Sky TV varies depending on what channels are included which of their 3 TV systems you are using and who you are - new customers can get cheaper prices than existing customers so there isnt a simple answer to your question.

Thanks for replying. Regardless of what ' offer ' they made I cancelled it back in February after receiving the new Sky box ( no engineer btw) I haven't had access to any Sky channels or streaming since January BUT have been continually charged for it ! I also do not have a landline. I have absolutely  NO interest in Sky TV and am quite happy with freeview. Is it a little clearer for you now ?

They owe me an apology and quite alot of money ! Once I get a reasonable response an outcome I shall be changing to Vodofone which ATM is only £17.95 a month. They also pay for any existing fee from previous subscription. Janette lewis

Hi, thanks for your advice...I really was only interested  in broadband and I don't have a lanline. They tried everything ( like offering me a ridiculous deal ) to keep me subscribing to Sky TV. I initially accepted a basic package along with broadband and they sent me a new Sky box ( no engineer  BTW) I then realised they were still charging me the same amount. They told me if I were to return the Sky box the subscription  would be cancelled. I sent it back, this was last February. I have not had any Sky TV !!or streaming since last January  when I cancelled it !! .

I have ABSOLUTELY  no interest in any Sky channels and am quite happy with freeview  !! Sky do not like to accept this and it's a disgrace. They owe me an apology and a refund then, I am moving to Vodofone which is just £17.95 a month for broadband. Thank you janette,

@Janette44 If you think Sky CS is disgraceful, you clearly ain't dealt with Vodafone, at least Sky's call centres are in the UK, in Scotland...

@MrRichAllen1976 Thats not quite correct, Sky has call centres in a number of locations with the majority of staff actually being in various offshore locations.

You didn't answer the question I asked last week… did you receive an email (or letter) from Sky acknowledging the cancellation of the TV services?

If not, unfortunately it very much sounds like the TV subscription was not cancelled, and you'll need to contact Sky to discuss this. If you're currently in a discounted minimum term Sky can refuse to allow you to cancel.
