If I cancel my sky TV subscription will it effect the price of my broadband bill?

I phoned sky a few days ago to cancel the tv subrsciption but was told that I had to have the Sky Essentials tv package at a minimum in order to keep my Sky broadband.

That sounds incorrect. You might, however, have to be on Essentials to avoid an early exit penalty on the television subscription.

The contract is ending in January so early exit fee shouldn't have been an issue. I was trying to cancel the tv package for my dad actually, but he didn't want the stress of cancelling the broadband at the same time so just wanted the tv removed.

I'm not trying to end the tv contract early, I just don't want to renew it.
The current contract with sky is ending at the end of January and I was only wanting to renew the broadband and landline part. I was told on the phone that it wasn't possible to only have Sky Broadband and the landline and would have to be part of a tv package (essentials being the minimum tv package)
