Can't cancel my Sky

I was paying 15 a month Sky stream basic and 25 a month broadband for past 18 months, then last month it jumped to 31 and 47 (nearly double). My banking is set so that if a direct debit amount changes it automatically is cancelled (past experience taught me not to trust companies, the direct debit guarantee means nothing). Anyway, as a result Sky blocked my service and are demanding £104. I am not prepared to pay that, I am not paying 78 a month for basically broadband (I only watch netflix, don't watch normal tv). I have tried contacting Sky but going round and round in circles all day, virtual assistant instead of a real person, through to an overseas call centre when rang up only to be told I needed to pay £104 plus re setup direct debit before they could discuss my account. This is just awful customer service, so I've looked around and signed up for broadband with a different provider but they cant install before the 30th, a nuisance but so be it. Anyway I have no intention of paying Sky £104 as its unjust (based on them doubling my cost, then adding extra for being overdrawn as a result, then blocking my service so why should I pay for something Im not recieving), I just want to now cancel my account, but am unable to, just getting sent round in circles. How do I speak to a real person in the UK to sort this out?

Short answer is you can't.

Sky won't speak to you until they are paid what is owed to them ( and you can't cancel services whilst being in debt to them).

Ultimately cancelling the direct debit is the worst thing to do as you will be charged late payment fees and it will be added as a mark against you on your credit file. Eventually Sky will pass the debt over to debt collectors as well.

@Roy5252

If you have blocked the payment then your services will be restricted until the bill is paid and you also will not be able not be able to speak to Sky.

If you have seen a price increase then it is probably because the discount you had has ended as it doesn't last for ever so instead of blocking tyhe payment you should have called Sky to see if they will offer you a new one.

So Sky simply implementing the contract you agreed?

As above, you're on the hook so best option is to pay the outstanding amount and give proper notice to cancel.
