Broadband offer doesn't match T&Cs.

My latest upgrade offer for broadband is

ncr2124_0-1738410914125.png

Which I think is pretty rubbish for an exisiting (25+year) customer. This averages at £31.50 over the 24 month deal.

However in the "legal bit" T&Cs I noticed this:-

ncr2124_1-1738411080745.png

No mention of any mid-contract prices rise, just simply £27pm for 24 months!

So I'm wondering which is correct. Can I contact Sky and say I'd like the £27 deal fixed for 24months as per your "legal" terms please?

@ncr2124  Prices quoted on the website are normally new customer prices only (unless explicitly specified) which you would have benefited from when you first joined

you can't get the offer again I'm afraid

AIUI the regulations give 2 options:

1. Give price rises in pounds, e.g. £30 increasing by £2 in April

2. Keep mid-contract rises at an undetermined level but allow a penalty-free exit

There are pro's and con's in either.  For those vendors choosing option 1 they've 'guessed' inflation and erred on the high side (increases are way above current inflation) - but gives certainty of cost during the contract.

Sky have chosen option 2 I believe - so although there's some unknowns, their increases may be lower than those in option 1 but you have the option to leave without penalty.

There are no 'fixed price' deals (for the 2 year minimum contract).

Note: your pictures will be released once moderated - so my reply on some guesswork

Re: Broadband offer doesn't match T&Cs.

Sorry, didn't realise pictures don't initially display!

The offer I have is when I log in to my account and is for existing customers. It states "£24.50pm for 8 months then £35pm for remaining 16 months".

The "legal bit" which doesn't match this states :-

Full Fibre 100: Average speeds: 100Mb/s (download); 18Mb/s (upload). £27pm for 24 months, then £38pm. Price available until 26/02/2025.

It doesn't mention price rises, just a very clear cut £27pm, for 24 months.

@ncr2124 While the legal bit does not mention a possible mid contract price increase when you select full fibre 100 it does, this is from the webpage

Re: Broadband offer doesn't match T&Cs.

@daveNOS

My screen shows almost the same as yours but where you have:-

Current price£27

a month

Prices may change during 24 month contract

Mine shows:-

£24.50 in total a month for 8 months then £35 in total a month for 16 months.

The only place on the whole screen where it mentions price increases is if you select WiFi Max at £4pm (price may increase).

Surely if what appears to be a "fixed" 24 month deal in their legal bit, I could hold them to that "legally"!!

Yes, maybe.  But it's never easy.

@ncr2124 Nope, looking fully at the "legal bit" you get this just below the bit you've quoted,

Full Fibre 100: Average speeds: 100Mb/s (download); 18Mb/s (upload). Sky VIP exclusive price £23pm for 24 months, then £38pm: Save compared to standard price of Full Fibre 100 (currently £27pm). Price may change during 24 month contract.

There is also this just above the bit you quoted which covers all broadband packages,

Sky Broadband and Sky Talk / NOW Broadband and Sky Talk: Subject to status. Speeds vary by location. NOW Broadband is supplied by Sky. Separate 24-month minimum term contracts apply to Sky Broadband / NOW Broadband, Sky Talk, Sky Broadband Boost, and Sky WiFi Max. Availability to UK homes: Superfast 35 and Superfast 95%, Full Fibre 75, Full Fibre 100, Full Fibre 150, Full Fibre 300, Full Fibre 500, Full Fibre Gigafast and NOW Full Fibre 51%; Ultrafast 6%. Includes line rental and Sky Talk Pay as You Talk £0pm. Prices may change during contracts. Set-up fee of £9.95 router delivery plus £10 activation fee may be required.

There are no fixed-price deals for any Sky broadband packages, and unless you can get them to put it in writing that you will not see any price rises, you will inevitably see at least one rise during the 24-month term.

Re: Broadband offer doesn't match T&Cs.

@daveNOS

This is crazy.... in the hour or so since I started this thread the T&Cs I see have changed!! I now have 2 lines for Fibre100...

Full Fibre 100: Average speeds: 100Mb/s (download); 18Mb/s (upload). £27pm for 24 months, then £38pm. Price available until 26/02/2025.

and....

Full Fibre 100: Average speeds: 100Mb/s (download); 18Mb/s (upload). Sky VIP exclusive price £23pm for 24 months, then £38pm: Save compared to standard price of Full Fibre 100 (currently £27pm). Price may change during 24 month contract.

Neither of these match the offer on the main screen though! So 3 different prices and terms all on the same webpage! Think I'll have to phone and see what the deal actually is.

I agree that I've never managed to get a fixed deal out of Sky but I thought maybe with the recent OfCom changes this might be available with whats in their T&C's.

As I described earlier - they've chosen the option not to fix prices.

As I said, this might actually be better - you have the best of both worlds.  If you don't like the increase then you can probably leave penalty free.
