Breach of Personal Data
I have been contacted today by somebody claiming to be from Sky and trying to obtain my security information from me and also having personal information about me. When I called Sky to discuss, the call was very unusual in that it seemed the contact centre were receiving a high volume of calls and were aware something was going ob, mentioning that their customer system to validate my details on was down, a strange set of events to all occur within a short period of time, leading me to believe that a personal data breach has occurred at Sky and is not at all being handled very well.

Re: Breach of Personal Data
@Stockers82 It's unlikely a data breach has occured but more likley a scammer trying to obtain information about your account.

Re: Breach of Personal Data
I agree with @GD1
The scammers contact you trying to obtain sufficient information to enable them to order expensive mobile phones in your name.
With any unexpected calls from 'Sky' if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which a genuine Sky agent should in my opinion) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll be a scam call.

Re: Breach of Personal Data
Unfortunately I do not believe it to be as simple as this as the chain of events that occurred were highly unusual. Upon catching the scammer out who abruptly hung up, I immediately contacted sky to discuss and it was very clear from that call that something of quite a large scale was going on based on the way that my call was handled and some of the uncertain responses I was given by the agent who appeared to be in the mix of a bit of an [Removed] storm to put it politely

@Stockers82 Best raise a complaint through the correct route, the community can't help with a complaint. https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-customer-complaints-code-of-practice/

In the unlikely event that this has happened, it would be reported to the ICO as required by UK law.
The call centres are always busy, and even more so on the Monday after a named storm.
Realistically there's very little point calling Sky after receiving scam calls anyway unless personal information has been revealed.

Re: Breach of Personal Data
I have had exactly the same thing and they had my name and knew I was a Sky platinum member. I was suspicious but let them continue as I gave no information away.
They knew exactly how much I paid a month and pretended to give me a 30% discount. They then said I would be getting a VIP hamper. I was sceptical but a courier arrived with 2 brand new iPads! They had ordered them online in my name and tried to get me to take them to a post office, saying that I had received the wrong package.
I reported to Sky but have to wait about a week for their fraud dept to ring me!!! Sounds like a Sky data breach to me...

Hi @BettyA22 It sounds like you were a victim of an account takeover which is why the scammers knew that you were a platinum member and how much you were paying. https://www.sky.com/help/articles/account-takeover

A breach may be - but not necessarily by Sky.
Scammers will harvest login information from other sites (that have been breached) and then try the credentials on other sites as many will reuse passwords. They will have some success in accessing a website and then the scam starts...
Always use unique passwords and enable 2-factor wherever you can (Sky support 2-factor).
