Hi all,
I spoke to my 75 and 80yr old parents yesterday and they casually mentioned that they are paying over £100 per month with SKY for their TV and Broadband. Their grandchildren are always complaining about broadband speeds when they visit so my parents decided to investigate and were offered a new router which they happily took. It would appear that the new router was sent out to them accompanied by tying them into a new 18month contract.
When i check the SKY website even the most expensive packages only seem around £50.
My parents dont have netflix, they dont have movie channels and they dont have sport channels.

Could their discounts for the TV subscription have ended? Sky will have told them the date the discount was ending when they took it out. You/they could compare a previous bill to their latest bill and see where the amounts differ
www.sky.com/bill.
If the discounts have ended they can contact Sky to try to negotiate a new deal or potentially amend the package which will now require another 24 month minimum term contract. Sky are not obliged to offer them another discount and it seems discounts are becoming more difficult to come by, so if they're offered something acceptable be prepared to agree to it there and then because if they decide to think about it the offer may no longer be available when they call back.
They can either call Sky or use the following link

Was that just a new router, or a change of broadband technology supplying the address?

That would typically be correct (although minimum terms are now 24 months)

Around £40 for broadband and £60 for television wouldn't be at all unusual.
