Annual Cost Increases to Broadband and TV packages

Hi, I'm interested in joining Sky. However, I cannot find any information on the annual price increase (such as in March, where on EE it increases by a fixed price of, say, £4 a month, for example).

Ofcom states that each provider needs to make this price increase clear to customers. I cannot find it on the current Black Friday deals pages.

I would also like to know how much the TV package (Essentials, for example) increases each year during this 24-month contract. The site only states it could increase.

If anyone who has a combined Essentials TV and 500 Mbps broadband package could help, it would be appreciated. I can then decide if it is worth switching to Sky.

What happens to the Sky Glass TV provided at the end of this contract? Reading the small print, it appears you only lease this. Does that mean it needs to be returned at the end of the contract? Or are you charged a fee for keeping it?

Finally, Netflix is included in the Essentials TV package. If you already have Netflix, it says the account can be switched and included (so no separate fee). However, if you have the normal 4K Netflix without ads, are you switched to the standard HD Netflix with ads?

Thanks for any help provided.

Sky don't use that new fixed price increase method, but instead give customers the right to cancel mid-contract when a price increase is announced, which is allowed under Ofcom's guidelines.

"Some other [providers] offer contracts that permit for unspecified price rises during the contract period. If they do this, they must give customers 30 days’ notice and the right to exit penalty-free, so consumers can avoid these price rises if they want.

Also worth being aware that unfortunately the new regulations imposed by OFCOM have some loopholes in them which does allow for providers to decide to set the annual price increase to higher than the fix amount they stated in the contract at the start.  This essentially means those providers that are doing so will be like Sky's policy where once informed of the price rise you can leave penalty free within 30 days.

To be honest I prefer the old policy, which Sky are sticking to, because at least then you aren't being promised something in a contract only for it to not be delivered and for the company to be breaching it. This new regulation OFCOM put in was always flawed, because unless the industry moved back to 12 month contracts as standard, companies were never realistically going to be able to predict what a multi-year annual price should be at the start of a contract as they have no way of actually predicting what the economy will do over that multi-year period.

The Glass will be owned by you from the outset, whether you pay for it upfront or take out a loan  over 24 or 48 months.

Bear in mind that the glass TV has a standard two-year warranty and I  suggest that you take out Sky Protect or some other warranty as there have been reports of first Gen Glass TVs packing up after the warranty has expired. It is too early to comment on the long term reliability of Gen 2 Glass.

By default, yes: this can then be topped back up to Netflix Premium by adding the relevant Sky subscription supplement.

Nothing in the wording should suggest that's the case.  As @2muchTV indicates, Glass is purchased up-front either with the customers cash or through an unsecured personal loan which is then repaid over the specified period.

Re: Annual Cost Increases to Broadband and TV packages

Hi, I'm currently considering the same package as you after speaking to Sky customer services today.
I pushed for an answer to price increases over the two year period, and the agent kept insisting the contract price £35 (broadband and TV) a month would not increase in April.
I asked for this is writing before signing up so let's see but I don't know how Sky can guarantee me no price hikes throughout my contract term.. but also surely they cannot lie to customers?
I am considering what to do next.
