Account cancelled - still received a bill

Hi, I cancelled my account back in May - I gave 30 days notice and my account was terminated on 09/06. My last payment was on 08/05. It took me 2 hours using chat to cancel my account. The advisor (who I found to be quite rude) advised me that there would be a final bill to pay. I queried this but I never received an answer.

I have now received notice that my account is now overdrawn as my payment for June has not been received - why is this? As far as I'm aware I pay a month in advance. My account was for Broadband only and my May payment should have covered me up until my account was terminated. The bill I have received is for my regular monthly amount.

Please advise.

Michael

Re: Account cancelled - still received a bill

to add further...

I cancelled my direct debit on the day I gave my notice

I checked my account online and it does confirm my account was cancelled 09/06. At the time I cancelled I checked that I only needed to give 14 days notice (this was on the 8th May) but the advisor insisted my account would have to end on the 9th June.

The amount on the bill is for £37.26 (June). However, I have checked my 'next predicted' bill for July and it says -£36.02. (that's minus £36.02). So do I take it that I am being asked for £37.26 only to be refunded £36.02 a month later??

Cancelling the direct debit will make the credit refund harder to give as Sky would have to issue a cheque.

What you have experienced is quite normal, as billing continues as usual until your last day of service and we always pay a month in advance so you will almost always have credit in your account at the end of the notice period that is then refunded.

The £36.02 is what is due to be refunded to you so is a credit, as you have cancelled your direct debit Sky will have to send out a cheque which can take a good few weeks to be sent out. Alternatively you could reinstate the direct debit as we can then arrange some help for you via here to get this refunded to you which then should be with you by this time next week.

Re: Account cancelled - still received a bill

but why am I being billed? I paid my direct debit in May to cover the period until 09/06. PLUS, I am only supposed to give 14 days notice so I should have received a refund for 2 weeks.

So, your saying I should pay for a month of service that I am not recieving only to get it refunded the following month (or when Sky feels like it)?

Re: Account cancelled - still received a bill

I've been in touch via chat and the charge has been scrapped. I owed £1.24 - this amount is too low to pay as a one off payment so a credit is being applied to the account.
