50% plus price increase - are they taking the Michael?
I just figured out that I am out of contract with Sky TV. I don't recall getting any email from Sky to warn me. They simply jacked up the price.
So I was paying £30 pcm for SkyQ basic package. No internet. No phone.
I see that I am now paying £50 pcm.
Is this type of increase typical?
I will seriously consider leaving. It's just frustrating to lose recordings, but never mind.
It just feels like the Sky executives have treated my with zero respect, and that really angers me.

Re: 50% plus price increase - are they taking the Michael?
Apart from perhaps not emailing you to let you know of the increase I can't see what Sky have done wrong here as you were given this discount and would have been told how long the contract lasted for so once the minimum term had come to an end you should have been aware that a price increase was to follow. Time now to call Sky to see if they will offer you another discount and if you do it will come with a new contract so make a note of when this is due to an end so you do not get caught out again.

Re: 50% plus price increase - are they taking the Michael?
Firstly, you're not out of contract, your discounts have ended.
At the end of your discounted period, you revert to paying the full undiscounted price. The percentage increase this represents obviously relates to the amount of discount you were given in the first place: the bigger the discount, the bigger percentage increase to get you back to full price.
Secondly Sky doesn't email you to advise discounts are finishing. It's shown on your original contract and can be seen in the MySky app. Your bill has now increased to the full amount shown on your contract documentation.
You can ring Sky to negotiate a new deal, although it appears significant discounts are no longer available. You can of course cancel by giving 31 days notice, and get new customer deals from an alternative supplier.

The absence of such communication is still the centre of an extremely protracted legal dispute between Sky and Ofcom.

Suggest you do a viewing & usage audit asking questions such as... Which channels do I watch? Which channels or programmes do I record? Could I get the same for free using a Freesat recording box? Is the £360 pa (or £600) good value?

You are 1 of millions of Sky customers. It is not about Sky executives showing disrespect to you.... They don't know you.
So again I suggest look at what you watch and record and if you want to keep Sky Q, contact Sky to get a deal to stay.
