32% Price Increase to renew as Sky Gold Customer

I learnt this week that when my current contract expires this year, the "best price" available to me will be 32% more than I currently pay. This includes an additional 8.6% mid term 2025 price increase due soon. The retention team always refer to any price increase as the "ending of existing discounts" but of course, for me as a customer, it equates to an increase in the price I pay each month.

The team made no effort to keep me as a customer, so I am ending my contract after 5 years as a "Sky Gold" customer. This is the first time my renewal process has involved such a shockingly high increase in price, combined with a lack of any desire to retain me as an ongoing customer. The representative assured me that I would be able to feeback my experience of the call as I would receive both an email and text allowing me to do so. However, I have received neither.

Has the current economic environment or business model for Sky changed to such an extent in the past year to explain this?

Yes.

High-level of discounts seems to be like hens teeth.

Also the April price rise has added £10 onto my £92 bill and once my offers end it will be even worse. So looks like I will be leaving Sky too after over 20 years.

Yes, unless you call Sky and try to negotiate a new discount which will now require a 24 month minimum term contract. Sky are not obliged to offer you another discount, and recent posts on here indicate that significant discounts are now harder to come by. If you’re offered something acceptable be prepared to agree to it there and then because if you decide to think about it the offer may no longer be available when you call back.

Ultimately, if you don't believe it's value then that's the right thing to do.  Sky are obviously trying to increase their income but it may backfire.

Re: 32% Price Increase to renew as Sky Gold Customer

The only real way to do this is to have a true alternative.

For me, when I moved from VM to Sky 3 years ago I left my VM coax in place.
I can't get a decent deal so I'll be shifting my £140pm to Virgin (actually quite a bit less).

What really galls me is that they expect you to commit to 24 months but won't commit to how much the price will increase in 2026.
VM contracts are still 18 month and do state the amount of increase in 2026.

Re: 32% Price Increase to renew as Sky Gold Customer

I paid £130 per month and will be up to £175 as my contract is ending mid April and all the discounts are dropping off. What am I to expect from sky? I have renewed before and accepted what they have offered but this is going up too much, am I best to ask for the retention team and hope for the best? Anyone else any examples of deals they've been offered

Mine is the same and sadly just signed up in Decembr for a 2 year deal.

Most unhelpful staff going and I'm afraid its the end for us after more than 20 years with Sky.

The world has moved on and their package now longer is good value,

Incredible! Well done 🙂

Weird how so many, like me, are faced with hefty price increases, whilst others actually manage to get significant reductions.

I'm sure it was the retentions team I spoke with (at length) and they insisted that a 32% increase to my bill was their best offer - and weren't at all bothered when I then cancelled my contract.
