I returned a sky tv box. I received an email saying it was on the way to Sky on the 7 September, I still haven't received my £39.95 refund

Are you saying you have been charged a non return fee, if so do you have the receipt you were given with the tracking details on it ?

What refund? Have Sky already charged you for not returning loaned equipment? Do you still have proof of posting?
