What's going on with sky???

Before this year, I had never had any issues at all with Sky. Unfortunately now it seems I have been pushed into one complaint after another. The main problem seems to be the incompetent, unprofessional, employees, sky now hire to run their company and help and answer their customers.

Today at 14.30 I was called by sky 0800 number. The young man offered me a sky doorbell. I immediately said I wasn't interested as I already had a ring doorbell. Before I could finish my sentence I was interrupted by "we know you aren't interested "!!! As you can imagine, I was a bit taken aback by his rudeness so immediately questioned who exactly he was as I could not believe sky would cold call a long time customer and speak to them this way. Again, before finishing he then began to play, extremely loud interference noise, down the line. Assuming this was meant to shock, I laughed and asked that exact question, as he was on loud speaker and the phone was not against my ear. The line went silent but he had not hung up. I then asked if he was still there, only to be replied by the interference noise again. I stayed on the call for a minute or so with intermittent noise and then silence, until he ended the call. Imagine if I was of a nervous disposition or elderly or easily shocked or offended. Thankfully I am none of those. I checked the number on Google and rang it back, and the message on the other end identified it as a sky number. The trouble with trying to complain to sky, you are only given options to complain about services they offer, not customer service, which seems to be the issue 90% of the time for me, or in this instance, sales and marketing, which I would place cold calling in. Playing upsetting content down a phone line in order to cause upset or distress must surely be an offence. At the very least, this person should lose their employ within sky. I doubt though that would happen as it seems that these people are now the backbone of a once respectable organisation. Obviously, sky do not give you the option to complain about their customer services as they are aware that they would be inundated. Even if the option was available I would imagine these complaints would be ignored or buried or conveniently forgotten. I realise most people on here are also customers however if there is a way for this to find its way to a sky employee, I would love to discuss this with someone who is prepared to take some sort of action over this. The occurrences I have endured over the last few months, have left me with a horrible taste in my mouth. So much so that my feelings towards this company now have soured tha much I probably now will probably let my current contract run down and look elsewhere. Which is such a shame, as sky t.v has given me everything I need in a provider, for the past 20 years or so. Sadly, their tv content is now the only positive I have to say about this company now!

Any number can be spoofed. Did this caller ask you for your previously agreed telephone password? Did you give an incorrect one to try to determine if it really was Sky calling?

Are you sure this call was actually from Sky. Just because they said they were does t mean they were as there are just so many scam calls that are made each day from people impersonating companies like Sky.

Your just telling other customers here, If you really think it ewas Sky then give them a call and query it

Apart the fact did not know normally Sky ring on market calls and just offer doorbells that is new one to me.

Also if was genuine Sky call the Sky agent should start off by first of all asking if the Sky account holder followed by asking for your tephone password.That is standard procedure for Sky agent to do to insure they are speaking to the correct person on the account.

If the person that you spoke to did not follow this procedure I would very much dout if the call was genuine call from Sky.

No, nothing in the way of security details were asked for. Just the sky doorbell offer.

As I explained I did google the number which was identified as sky, and I also phoned it back to be met by a message saying it was a sky number.

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your previously agreed telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it will be a scam call.

Unfortunately scammers spoof numbers. They quite often use random mobile numbers but sometimes they do spoof genuine numbers.

Thanks, but as I said no security details were asked for. Either it wasn't sky or I'd said I wasn't interested before they got to that point

Without confirming identities then I would assume it's not genuine. Post #8 gives best advice.

A genuine Sky agent should always ask for the previously agreed telephone password so they can confirm you're the account holder.

Its sounding more like a scam the more the thread progresses.

It's usually a semi-disguised approach for Sky Protect Device Insurance: the one I had last week was ostensibly to tell me all about the new features on Sky Glass before moving into the sales pitch.
