Hi guys, I've just got a call from Sky (supposedly) giving me a discount on future bills, plus a gift. Apparently, it's for being a loyal customer and always paying my bill on time. They didn't ask for any bank details (which I wouldn't have given anyway), so I want to know if it's legitimate.

They did say to add them on WhatsApp and confirm my name, and which device I'd like.

After that, I kind of became uneasy about it, so I went into MySky and changed my password. Will that stop them doing anything?

@AndyNM

Scammers try to obtain sufficient information to be able to order these expensive mobile devices in your name which Sky innocently deliver to you.

The scammers would then recontact you (again claiming to be Sky) saying they have made a mistake and for you to send it to a (non Sky) address. If you did that they then have the device and you have the bill.

They are very cunning. They may send packaging to post the item (to them) or might even send a 'courier' to collect it. see these links...

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/account-takeover

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your previously agreed telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it will be a scam call.

Hopefully so keep an eye on your account for any unusual activity like password reset emails from Sky. Is two step verification turned on via it ?

If so do not give them any Sky account details or bank details a genuine Sky agent doesn't need that information that have all on the screen in front of them. Once it ordered on your behalf and delivered byvsktonyour address you will get another call advising you they have made mistake and some one be coming to collect it, if you get that far which if you take notice of this post you won't do not give the device to any one but contact Sky to get returned to them as other wise you will no longer have device but have the bill to pay for it.
