Lost the plot

I think sky are trying to bankrupt themselves dillberately .phoned sky the day my contract ended to see if they would do me a deal not only wouldn't they do a deal they actually wanted to increase my bill to 76 Quid iv been a customer for 26 years so I politely told them to do one. A day or so later got an email saying they wanted there boxes back fine no problem they sent a pre paid box and I sent back the boxes this was a week ago .now today I get a phone call from sky asking if I would like a deal and if I had signed up with somebody else he said he could do it for under 50 pounds I told him iv already signed up to virgin i now get one gig volt plus all the sky channels I got before for 68 quid which works out im getting my old sky package that sky wanted 78 quid for 23 pounds and the broadband band for 45 at this point the sky agent hung up on me no thankyou for your time he actually hung up if this is how sky treat a 26 year long customer it is not surprising customers are leaving in their thousands. What where they thinking when they offer new customers what I was paying 72 pounds for for the price of 35 pounds did they think that I would be happy paying twice as much as somebody else err no the funny thing is of they had offered me a descent deal say 40 quid I wouldn't have bothered looking around and they would of locked me in for another two years so sky has lost 880 quid and because agent customer service I will never go back to sky

New customers are offered good discounts as an incentive to join. Most companies do this now. You probably took advantage of such a new customer deal when you first joined Sky.

If you couldn't negotiate an acceptable price for renewing then perhaps a move was for the best, but when that deal nears its end you'll be in the same position with them, and will be able to rejoin Sky if you wish and take up any new customer deals available at that time.

Comcast do appear to prioritise getting new customers over retaining long standing ones. As other providers do this too it seems to be a common theme.

@pioplolo Virgin in particular hike their rates once your honeymoon period is over. You'll probably end up going back to Sky with a new customer deal at that point/

Most companies don't as is it against the law in the financial services world telecoms companies are exempt for now but most phone companies will do almost anything to keep your business which only leaves TV companies so when you say most what you are actually sayong is one sky !! Please get your facts straight before replying utter nonsense

We're not talking financial or insurance services, and there's way more subscription services than just them and TV/broadband, almost all of which will attract customers with a lower new customer price and then try and retain with a higher price at the end of minimum term.

I jumped ship from Sky BB to VM BB over 2 years ago and recently jumped back to Sky. You're really not going to be happy with VM in 2 years time, that I can guarantee.

Completely agree with @Me134 , most subscription based services/industries do this, its only actually illegal in a handful of services/sectors, for example insurance where renewal quotes can't be more expensive that what they would offer a new customer.

I disagree that virgin won't do me a deal when my two years are up iv been with them 20 years and every time they put up my broadband I phoned to cancel and they fixed the price at my old price for broardband being paying the same price for years in fact when I signed up to the TV package I complained that they where doing a better deal for new customers and they reduced my cost so I now pay 68 quid for 1 GB volt full sky TV with sports and Netflix in three rooms my old cost was 40 quid for broadband and 76 quid for the TV package so at the minute I'm a happy chappie I think in two years it will be even cheaper as there will be even more competition as BT gets fibre optic in my area Elon musk has launch sky net or what ever it's called and Amazon will entre the market at some point when that happens bye bye sky the only reason I'm with virgin is the speed of ever other supplier is **bleep** once there are 3 or four suppliers giving 1 GB the price will drop massively

Sky and other ISPs on the national terrestrial network have no choice about paying the price demanded by Openreach/BT Wholesale who actually own the poles, ducts and cabling.

Sorry but sky BT and Virgin will all be obsolete in five years starlink and Amazon Leo will be the way forward star link is already in this country and Amazon Leo will follow no need for cables

Trust me every year there is less and less on sky people like me got sky for the sport in ten years it's lost exclusive rights to football NFL rugby league boxing no rugby union at all no boxing no champions league sky one has nothing at all but they do have women's football women's golf women's tennis and of course cricket all of which I hate as do most blokes I know do you think sky will exist in 10 years probably but only if it changes it's prices compared to Amazon Netflix's it's probably worth 30 pounds for the full package nowhere near the 76 pounds it wanted to charge me

I'm a little confused when you say its lost exclusive rights to football. Sky haven't had exclusive rights for years but what they have done since the new TV deal kicked in is dramatically increase the amount of PL games that are shown. Sky do hold the exclusivity so that every PL game played on a Sunday is broadcast on Sky.

Whilst Sky didn't get the Champions League rights in the new broadcasting deal ( which has gone to Paramount +) in the new UEFA TV deal they do hold exclusivity for the Europa and Conference games from the 2027/28 season.

With the point regarding Amazon, they seemingly dropped out of the PL coverage in the last round of rights renewals ( at a guess because it wasn't cost effective) and instead picked up only the 1 weekly Champions League game. Interestingly, Netflix seemingly aren't currently interested in getting weekly sports rights and would rather pick up one-off rounds or special events of sports ( When Netflix made their offer for WDB they kind of made it known that they weren't particularly interested or bothered in regular live sporting rights, even though they would have owned the international versions of TNT Sports had their takeover been successful).

I think your missing the point sky is not worth the money you picked up that it hasn't had the exclusive rights of football but is showing move premier league games but have no come back about the other sports such as boxing rugby league which they used to show superleague and div 1 now no div one Netflix shows the big fights or daz and not one rugby union match now on premier oh also forgot we lost Eurosport as well so to sum up to get all the sports I used to get with sky I have to pay for BT sport premier daz total cost about 60 on top of sky sport package your argument has no Weight

Your wrong there sky are not losing the football rights apart from they now have with premier league and EFL font 2027/28 season they will also re again the Europa league from TNT so in fact the majority of major football will be on sky Sports.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with Sky, as Eurosport is owned by WDB and it was their decision to close down thier free sports brand and move all the sports coverage over to their paid-for TNT Sports brand ( of which part of the reason was to help fill gaps in the live sports schedule of the 4 TNT Sports channels as TNT went through a period of not renewing a bunch of sporting rights).

Another poster who can't read sky had the premier league and champions League now it only has the premier League hence it lost the rights to the biggest football competition in the world excluding the world cup and another poster with blinkers on who only picks up on the football what about the rest of the sports I mentioned
