topic Not very VIP! in Account & Billing

Been a Sky customer for over a decade and my family had it right from the very beginning of Sky.

Was going to upgrade to Sky Sports and noticed that new customers got Sky Ultimate and Sky Sports for £44 so I enquired with Sky on what offer they could do me . Needless to say I was extremely surprised and somewhat shocked/disappointed/annoyed that their best offer was to recommend that I downgrade my Netflix to include ads! Seriously, that isn't even an offer, but that was the very best that I was told Sky could offer any customer despite being repeatedly told I was a valued customer.

The entire conversation left me considering to walk away from Sky when my contract expires (had to actually spend an hour getting my last ultimate TV contract down to a sensible price when I last recontracted) and just pay for Netflix, Disney, Paramount, Apple TV and Hayu and still have change.

The reason why is I know that the next time I recontract on just Sky Ultimate, the result of adding Disney, HBO and Hayu to Sky will be added to contracts. I know moaning will have no effect, but in this case I wasn't even trying to decrease my monthly payment, I was going to increase it and recontract for 24 months (Sky would no doubt increase the price during those 24 months despite there being a contract in place), but there is a huge difference between the price paid by new customers and time served loyal customers.

I know Sky will not bother to make any contact with me as I'm just a number, but it's disappointing that Sky don't look after existing customers - in all I spend nearly £100 per month with TV, mobiles and tablets etc (they only ever make direct contact when trying to sell something).

@PippinCt it's a common complaint, I'm afraid. Sky's current pricing strategy exclusively favours new customers while existing customers renewing are offered only token discounts. Unfortunately other providers do pretty much the same thing.

@PippinCt

New customers are offered good discounts as an incentive to join. Most companies do this now. You probably took advantage of such a new customer deal when you first joined Sky.

If you can't negotiate an acceptable price for renewing then perhaps consider a move to an alternative provider, but when that deal nears its end you'll be in the same position with them, and will be able to rejoin Sky if you wish and take up any new customer deals available at that time.

Comcast do appear to prioritise getting new customers over retaining long standing ones. As other providers do this too it seems to be a common theme.

It's the contract which specifies that the price can change.

You don't actually sky what Sky offered you I two have been with Sky many years and might contract was renewed a coupled of months a go for 2 year minimum term I have Sky Q so pricing would be slightly any way even for a new customer but with discount I pay £36.50 for signature and a total of £31 for sky sports complete including the compulsory he charge and £8 for HD where Sky stream get that as standard. That is a extra £31.50 a month more than the advertised price for Sky stream o the equivent product. However as I am on Sky Q so as I said a new customer on Sky Q would probly pay a bit more than £44 as the price for signature would be a bt higher then stream ultimate and the would also have to pay the extra barge for HD. However being an exsisting customer I do not expect the same price of a new customer and think just a difference of £31.50 extra than a new customer on stream and bearing in muindcif new customer was on Q the difference would probly be less, I think my present deal is quite reasonable.
