Sky compensation offer

I've been offered a discount on my account of £10 a month, plus an i pad and a gift hamper as compensation for previous overcharging. Has anyone else encountered this and is it for real or a scam?

It's a scam. There is no such offer. Hopefully you hung up before giving out too much info.

Scammers try to obtain sufficient information to be able to order expensive mobile devices in your name which Sky innocently deliver to you.

The scammers would then recontact you (again claiming to be Sky) saying they have made a mistake and for you to send it to a (non Sky) address. If you did that they then have the device and you have the bill.

They are very cunning. They may send packaging to post the item (to them) or might even send a 'courier' to collect it. see this link

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your previously agreed telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it will be a scam call.

That sounds very much like a typical scam especially the "free" gievaways as Sky does not offer such options should a mistake occur so hopefully you haven't respinded to this by giving them any of your Sky details because if you did this is what might happen:

If you receive an unexpected parcel from Sky get in touch with our customer services team immediately. We can give advice on what to do. Don’t send the parcel anywhere except our returns address.

We’ll give you pre-paid returns packaging to send the parcel back to us.

If you were duped be extremely careful about any arriving hardware being 'collected'.
