Incorrect information from Sky caller

Had a call from Sky looking to "reduce my monthly bill". First they suggested reducing my Netflix from the premium upgrade. I told them I wanted to keep the UHD quality, but was told that the standard upgrade would also be UHD quality and that as I had Sky UHD then I would keep UHD for Netflix. When I checked the Netflix packages it says that you only get HD with the standard package. Was the Sky representative wrong?

He then took a look at my discounts to see if he could save me money. He told me that my bill is currently £80+ and could get it down to £72+. I knew I was paying less than that. I logged in and I have discounts running until June 2026 and June 2027. I'm currently paying £60 and, when the June 2026 discounts run out, my bill will go up to £62 per month running through to June 2027. I did not want my bill to go up so told him no thanks.

Was he talking rubbish or just not communicating the change well? I could see the elderly falling for these kind of calls and ending up with a bigger bill.

I would read this articale and as a precaution take steps here https://www.sky.com/help/articles/account-takeover to secure your account and look out for any phones/tablets being ordered on your account.

Of course it was absolute rubbish and only a small discount from list prices and significantly higher than my current discounted prices. i told him as much and he quickly hung up.

Pretty sure it was Sky as i initially gave an incorrect pin and he picked up on it.

As you say, these type of underhand tactics will catch a lot of people out who end up paying more. Annoying! 😠

Sounds the same and definitely was Sky. I have the number stored on my phone as "Sky Sales". I purposely gave the wrong password first and he told me it was not correct and then confirmed the correct one. He spent ages trying to convince me that he was right about Netflix which is why I had to go to the site to confirm he was wrong.
