This being the case when my present Sky minimum term end I 2028 I will definitely not be switching to sky steam as I can get most of what my wife and I watch on Sky by getting a cheap firestick and subscribing to the now tv app. Yes that is technically still a Sky company but there subscription are a lot cheaper than having Sky stream with no no discount even Sky sports is cheaper on there than what you pay full price on Sky. For movies there plenty of competition to Sky movies in fact I watch more of Netflix and prime video than I find to watch on Sky movies anyway. No when satellite finishes Sky will have to do something to keep there customers or like you say they will walk . And what I have seen the Sky steam system is not a scratch on the satellite service as ther are many compliant, even now I read of many instances that customers that have tried Sky steam have not liked the service and wanted to return to Sky Q, a option that will not abavailble onece the. Satellite service finishes. If sky steam gets such a bad name Sky might end up with a very small customer base and even offering price losing discounts might not get them customers if there service is such rubilsh they will go to the competition and may end up like ITV digital did going out of business.

I've got access to iplayer, itx x, c4 app, disney+, netflix, hbo max and prime video so the majority of content i want to watch is typically available on demand, whether its from a third party app or from sky's on-demand catalog. Typically the only content i need to cloud record is live sporting events, and in over 90% of the cases i've never had an issue accessing or watching that recording.

Fundamentally users who want to record content and keep it forever will have to get used to the fact that the writing has been on the wall for that for several years now, as the streaming boom happen and all the rights holders figured they can essentially grab their own intellectual property back. Really if you want to keep recordings for a long time, its time to go back to buying physical media like DVDs/Blurays,

I switched over to the streaming platform from Sky +HD 4 years ago now ( and at that time the deal i was offered was cheaper by making the switch to the new platform) likely because Sky were trying to actively encourage customers to switch over at that time.

Yes customers will either switch to streaming or leave, and i'd suggest a number of customers who leave would still consume Sky's services via NOW TV, so still generating revenue and profit for them.

You also mention the other streaming services acting as competition, well don't forget Sky's streaming platform was always marketed as being a "content aggregator", and certainly with the additional bundling of HBO Max and Disney, in with the various offers for Netflix and Paramount +, the Sky proposition does start to offer good value for money for those who would individually subscribe to those platforms anyway.

I not sure about Sky sports membership on now but with TNT sports content on the HBO max app you can save a sport event in " My stuff" and will stay there for even months later as I have done.
