Leaving sky mid contract

I've been a loyal sky customer for over 25 years, I am into my present contract for almost seven months now, in all honesty I can't even remember renewing it in November 25, I got in touch with sky to cancel my package of TV and broadband, and as I have eighteen months to go they want to charge me over £450 to council, I asked if I can't afford my monthly payments of £72.00 a month how can I afford the exit fee ? No-one can offer me an answer, can anyone put their help ?????

@Suedawks you committed to 24 months minimum term in return for which Sky gave you a discounted deal. For that reason, they don't have to allow you to cancel early without paying a termination fee. Your best bet is to ask them whether you can remove or downgrade parts of your current package, to bring down the monthly cost.

I suspect Sky would argue they are not in the business of offering financial management advice.

If you are not going to follow @Mark39 's advice, and do still want to cancel, you might get some advice from your local Citizen's Advice Centre, who specialise in giving financial advice.

For TV subscriptions the latest T’s and C’s explicitly state you can’t cancel when still in a minimum term deal unless Sky agree. If they agree you’ll have to pay the remainder of your discounted term.

Besides the obvious of removing any monthly add-on such as UHD, HD or any Ad free tier of Disney or HBO etc, your other option is to hold on until the next April rises. You would be able to leave the broadband and if you have the Sky Q or Sky HD+ system, you could leave them as well with 31 days notice if cancelling outright or use the OTS system to switch.
