Call from Sky?

Had a call just now, an Indian man claiming to want to reduce my bills. Thought great, I've had to cancel half my stuff due to bills rising. He asked if I'm interested in the Sports package, I say I don't watch sports and he just goes 'Oh' then hangs up! How rude!

Was this genuinely Sky?

The phone number checks out and he knew how long I've been with Sky and what I'm paying for the internet so I assumed genuine but after the unprofessional ending of the call I'm not sure and I'm worried I may have just handed my name and address to a scammer with a spoofed Sky number 🙈

I can only assume that those cold call sales people get commission on a sign up and have some crazy high target to meet. They don't hang around once they know they're not getting a bite 😄

Oh my gosh . Thisis exactly the same thing that happened to me . The call came up as sky. He asked me if i had recieved an email from sky explaining the increase and i told hin no and he said dont worry we cn sort it now. He knew all about my account and how long i have been with sky. He said my tv was going up to £38 a month but he could do it for 29. When i started complining about the large increase he put the phone down on me . I was by no means rude, i just said that it was a large increase. I also thought that it could be a scam as he put the phone down but how the hell would he have known how long i have been with sky and when my contract was ending?????

@Shazbah

This would be a telephone password you've previously agreed with Skyband a genuine agent shouldn't carry on without verifying your identity.

Scammers try to obtain sufficient information to be able to order expensive mobile devices under your name which Sky innocently deliver to you. Hopefully you hung up before divulging anything important.

The scammers would then recontact you (again claiming to be Sky) saying they have made a mistake and for you to send it to a (non Sky) address. If you did that they then have the device and you have the bill.

They are very cunning. They may send packaging to post the item (to them) or might even send a 'courier' to collect it.

See this link

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/account-takeover

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your previously agreed telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it will be a scam call.
