You just couldn't make this up. ... I have been a VIP account holder with Sky for 6 years. Due to recent increases I noticed a great deal with Vodaphone for my Broadband , and mobile SIM alongside a £150 gift card. Total savings of £329 over 2 years.

Today I rang retentions to try and negotiate a better deal as despite the Vodaphone deal, I don't really want to leave Sky. The adviser was obnoxious and hostile towards me. He wasn't even prepared to listen to me after I had said 'due to my sky subscriptions increases and now being out of contract I'm thinking of leaving '. He said the best contract I can offer you is £77. I nearly burst out laughing but I was in shock- because that's £10 more than I'm already paying now.

When I calmly questioned the amount he told me that I'm already ' on a 'discounted package subscription' and any negotiating would be on a 'non discounted' package and that he could deduct £4.00 off. I told him that was ridiculous and I had intended to negotiate on my current package cost. Why on earth would I want to pay more than I'm paying now fgs He said this wasn't possible so I said If you can't help me I will cancel my subscription, which he proceeded to do.

He actually had the audacity to ask me to rate his performance in a customer survey - I wanted to tell him there and then that it would be 0. However I have learned that these type of hostile men just would argue with you.

Found out my Broadband contract period notice is 2 weeks and wondering what to do next. Never in my life have I been asked to pay more when negotiating a current amount!

Advice please.

@Annealise wrote:

Never in my life have I been asked to pay more when negotiating a current amount!

@Annealise
VIP status starts for all customers shortly after joining.

As your discounted minimum term has ended or its ending soon the best new discounts are still normally acquired by contacting Sky and negotiating or potentially amending your package which will require a new 24 month minimum term contract.

Significant discounts are harder to come by these days so if you’re offered something acceptable be prepared to agree to it there and then because if you decide to think about it the offer is unlikely to be available when you call back. Also remember you’re not a new Sky customer so don’t expect anything close to a new customer deal. The deal you're seeing with Vodafone is for new customers to them.

See this link…
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/change-your-package-2-t2#downgrade

If you decide it’s no longer value for money and you’re thinking of changing providers remember that at the end of their minimum term you'll be in the same position with that company at which point you'll be able to return to Sky and benefit from the new customer discounts available at that particular time.

You should use the OTS for BB (basically just sign up with someone else and they'll manage the switch) and ask for a PAC for the mobile. When you sign up for the new mobile service you can usually give the PAC there and then and gain, the new provider will handle the switch.

Hopefully you just told them you were leaving but if you did ask them to cancel you're going to have to call back to stop it going through and give it a few days to clear, otherwise it can get caught up in the paperwork (so to speak).

My discounted subscription contract wasn't coming to an end. I have a goodwill option that enables me to come out of my contract. No deal was offered to me - that's my point. I wanted to negotiate on my existing discounted l subscription that has increased.

No "admin fee" either although I'd forgotten about it TBH and so apparently had the agent .

I'll see how keen Virgin are for my BB at the end of this month but I'll just switch back to Sky if they fail at the first hurdle as I have FFTP fitted (by Sky as it happens) and upto 900Mbps available.

I'm 18 years in for Sky TV (and occassional BB and mobile) but it means absolutely nothing.
