Price increases in June??

Was set to leave Sky this month due to high bills and had a full cancellation in place. I then got emails and texts about offers to return, so out of curiosity, I got in contact. Was offered a significantly reduced bill which I accepted just last week. The rep specifically said that the agreed price will not be affected by the April price increase. Great, or so I thought.

Not only are my estimated bills all £10 more than what I was quoted, as well as being charged a 'one off' admin fee twice, to top it off I get an email saying that prices are set to increase in June! So I'm exempt from the April price increases for it to increases just 2 months later. Since when has that been a thing? I thought price increases only happened in April? Feeling like I'm just being completely ripped off and am starting to regret cancelling my original cancellation as nothing ever seems to go as planned/quoted with Sky.

Anyone else had this?

Hi @Rory084640 New minimum terms close to the 1st April, have the annual increase delayed for 60 days. It appears that this has happened in your case.

@Rory084640 Sky has a price protection policy whereby if you sign up to a deal close to 1 April, the annual price increase is deferred by 60 days.

Thank you both for the quick reply. That's incredibly sneaky in my opinion, they never mentioned that when informing me of the 'great news, your new price is exempt from the April price increase'.

Will contact them about this and the other issues. Always seems to be such hassle with Sky.

I also contacted sky about the April increase told them I wanted to cancel a couple of things which they did. While I was on she told me that they could decrease my monthly amount by further £10. She did tell me that would be new 24 month minimum term and as I was only into a month of the that present 24 month term ( I had recontracted in January as well) I did not mind. She did say that new monthly amount would include the April increase and told what my new monthly amount would be.from May. She did tell me the April amount which was slightly higher, but omitted to say that was because there was a £20 offer fee included. When I looked at my future bill the amounts she told me were correct and also notice though I have pay this offer fee included in April, the annual increase has been postponed for me till May . I did think of ringing them and complaining about the offer fee but as the April amount was what I would paid without the extra discounts of the new minimum term I have decided to let sleeping dogs lie in this case. The fact is with the new discounts any increases

I would have paid due to the annual increase has been wiped out by the extra discounts applied to the items of my package they were going to be increased. Apart from that there also now discounts on parts of my package I did not have before

The annual price rise occurs in April for UK customers. If you join or renew around that period the proposed increase is sometimes deferred for a few months and is then applied. It's kind of a grace period so you don't get hit by the price increase immediately. Your next proper price increase (we have to assume there will be one) will be in April 2027.

Presumably, once you get the price increase email you will be able to cancel without penalty (again).

Presumably, once you get the price increase email you will be able to cancel without penalty (again).

I wouldn't think that another price rise email would come, as per the original post the price rise notification has been mentioned in the contract renewal which in theory would start that 30 day exit penalty free clock from that point.

That 30 day countdown is designed for situations where customers are agreeing new contracts, outside the March/April period where the price rises have alrady been confirmed by Sky, as the entire rule was designed by OFCOM to provide more information/transparency about price rises at the start of the contract ( which in this case has been given for at least the first annual price rise, within the multi-year minimum term ).
