You would think the company that sent me the message would actually have a record of the message or at least of the company that was sending the parcel via their service.

I received a message on my landline from AQL, a text-to-speech service. I did not have a pen or paper at the time to record the details, so I saved the message for later retrieval. When I tried to retrieve the message by playing back the recording, there was only silence. I got in touch with AQL via email and was given another number to retrieve the message, but again, there was only silence. They have now advised me to contact my landline provider and said that Sky will have a copy of the message. The message was received around 7.08 am.
The message was about collecting a parcel.

Telcos typically don't retain message content (unless it's specifically as voicemail), just the digital 'wrapper'.
