I cancelled my sky and tnt sports subscription and saw a better deal on now tv BUT by the time tried to join now tv it failed, so I rejoined with the sports subscription, will my subscription still work if I've just rejoined again

If you have rejoined Sky then yes you should have access to the sports channels if you have subscribed to them again.

I've also made a payment by accident in credit for next month, I assume I can't get that repaid

If you see a credit on your account you can ask for this to be refunded. Going forward you do not have to make such payments.
