I'm still in contract with sky and I'm cancelling so obviously there is an early termination fee

my question is is that payable on the day or in the final bill

It should be added on what will be your final bill which might be after you have left Sky.

Do note that Sky are within their rights to not let you cancel as they might insist on your seizing the minimum term of your contract out.

On recent contracts, broadband can be cancelled early with a fee but subscription television doesn't have the same provision and Sky can insist on the full minimum term being fulfilled.
