Phone Call regarding 40% discount

Just had (multiple) calls from someone purporting to be from Sky offering me a 40% discount on my bills for the next 10 months. How do I know this is genuine? The call was difficult to understand (partly due to the caller's accent and partly due to poor mobile reception). They repeatedly asked for my email address and Sky password and I became increasingly nervous that it was a scam call. I've never know Sky to offer a discount like this without any prompting. What should I do?

Almost certainly a scam I'm afraid. If you disclosed your email address and password, I'd strongly recommend changing your password immediately, and consider setting 2 step verification if it's not in place already.

100% scam intended to obtain account details so that they can purchase expensive devices - usually iPhones. Once these have been delivered they'd contact you again to say there's been a mistake & that a courier will call to collect the device/s or you'll receive a returns label via Royal Mail. Once they have the devices then you most likely would be responsible for the costs.

If you've given them any details then change your password immediately & check to see if any orders have been placed, if they have then try to cancel them or contact Sky.

So I just looked up the number that these "Sky" calls are coming from and it appears to be a company called Colt Technologies. They are still phoning me so the caller is now blocked.

Colt is a wholesale provider of VoIP telephony services. Overseas shadow call centres use VoIP because it's an extremely low cost way of making international calls, and a provider typically has no idea of the nature of the communication involved.

My modus operandi is to NEVER make purchases over the phone from ANY unsolicited calls.

I tell the caller that and they quickly hang up.

Just received similar phone call [Removed] from Asian-sounding lady telling me I have been given 40% discount for 10 months. They needed my email address to send "activation link" to log into my Sky account and claim the discount. I have seen similar attempts to scam by providing fake links via email or text. Number reported and blocked.

I got 3 phone calls today, One I answered. I found it very difficult to understand the man calling me. Four times I said I couldn't understand and to slow down with what he was saying. I have no idea what he was offering. .........I think it was about reducing my bill? I cerainly don't want to pay more! It was much easier talking to people when the offices were in Scotland, that's for sure.

@Harriet11 most likely a scam. It's unlikely that Sky would call you 3 times. And highly unlikely if you're currently 'in contract'.

E.mailed arrived just after?? I shall change password. Had this a few months ago and then equipment I didn't need or ask for arrived. Took ages ringing up getting it returned.

Just rang SKY. It was a genuine call, but of course it involved sending me new equipment as in a mini box. I don't need it, we have 1 tv not multiple tv's in the house. Spent 10 minutes trying to explain I don't 'need' anymore bits !! 🙄. Also changed my password too.

SO...yesterday call from Sky offering to lower my bill. I had difficulty understanding the gentleman caller. Asked 4 times for him to slow down talking. Saix twice 'Please don't send me any more equipment, I don't want or need it'. Call ended. I rang customer service and relayed conversation etc. Now I find ewuipment is arriving tomorrow. Now another call to get a returns label and a journey to the post office......😡

The call wasn't from Sky.

BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT RETURNING EQUIPMENT. If you do not send it back to Sky then the scammers will have it and you'll have the bill.
