Charges apply until the last day of connection. Bills are generated 14 days before the payment date so what has happened is normal. Do not cancel your direct debit. If you do that any refund will take much longer as a back office team at Sky will have to raise a cheque and post it to you.

Did you contact Sky to cancel, if you did then billing continues as normal so if you have now left any credit can be refunded to you but only if you leave the direct debit in place otherwise you could be waiting weeks for a cheque to be sent out.
