Something similar happened to me, although it was about 8 years ago. I was told on the phone my contract was for the full term (18 months at the time), then 5 months later I had an email saying my discount had ended and my price would be increasing the next month. The email I received from Sky when I took out the contract mentioned nothing about this, but then their confirmation emails always were poor (I don't know what theyre like know, I left Sky last year). I complained, they looked into it and gave me the option leaving penalty free or a better deal. I took the better deal. This of course was before Comcast took over. Complain, they should have the chat/phone calls somewhere to check.

Sky TV contract Mis-sold

I renewed my sky tv package around November time via telephone for £123.50 a month.

my bill recently increased due to (I believe) a standard annual increase which I accept. When I called to query it to check I was informed my bill will be increasing to £153 a month - which I was not aware of.

the customer service member informed me that an offer would be ending this month and that explains the increased cost. I also realised I am paying £5.00 a month for multiscreen - a service that I didn't need but I remember at the time being told it is included for free so you might as well take it. I do not have a transcript of the conversation from when I agreed the contract 6 months ago but I am quite confident that I was not informed at the time that I would have a price increase after 6 months - whenever I get credit I like to know my monthly payments will stay the same throughout the contract - I wouldn't have agreed to anything with an increase.

what are my rights and what are my options? Ideally I would like to cancel my contract/ reduce the bill/reduce the term mainly due to feeling basically scammed.

Any changes you make to your viewing package are emailed to you (or sent in a letter) including how long an offer lasts.

If you believe you were misinformed I'd suggest a written complaint.

I've just found the confirmation email and it does say there is a 24 month discount and an 8 month discount applied. As I said previously this definitely wasn't explained on the phone but I know their defence would be "you should have checked the small print".

You should still complain. They can't tell you one thing on a chat/phone call then set it up as something else.
