Drop HD save £9

I am considering dropping HD from my account

It is absolutely ridiculous that we are being charged £9 per month for HD

I assume that HD is not linked to something else that I will lose ?

I do still get Sport HD for free......As well as freeview channels

The HD pack is needed for the Ultra HD package but that apart you will let linger get the pay entertainment channels in HD but will Sky Spirts and the Movies in HD as they come in this by default.

Hi @Wibbly-Woo If Sky dropped the HD subscription then the millions of SD only subscribers would be charged extra. There is no way that Sky will take a loss of several million pounds per month. You said it yourself, dropping HD will save you money.

@caesarome What happens to my HD recordings - I assume they become viewable in SD

and what about future recordings (things like ExpeditionX on Discovery HD and Oak Island on History HD) - do I have to reset the recordings to SD - or are they automatically downgraded ?

Does it really cost sky "several million" pounds per month to transmit in HD rather than SD ?

Hi @Wibbly-Woo Please read my post again. It doesn't cost Sky several million pounds a month to transmit HD. I am simply saying that to cut that income, Sky will find another way to find several millions of pounds. We cannot win.

Being a VIP (nearly every customer is a VIP member to some degree), does not automatically gain a discount. You have negotiate your discounts for each aspect of your subscription.

It simply adds to their total annual income, in the same way as other subscriptions do. If they didn't charge for HD, the lost income would be recovered by increasing the,subscription cost of their other services. At least by charging separately you, and those who simply don't want or need it don't have to pay for it. If the HD charge was included by default in the vharge for other TV subscription packages, you wouldn't have thay choice.

I pay almost double this - WITHOUT netflix - and I have been a paying sky customer for 23 years - why are NEW customers treated like royalty and old customers ripped off ?

and am unable to negotiate a better deal because my account has been purloined by PRIORITY CUSTOMERS - Who, when asked for a better deal simply tell me YOUR OPTION IS TO LEAVE SKY !!

Yet refuse to tell me WHY my account was taken over by them.....

So I am in a bit of a nightmare situation

Surely - I am entitled to know why PRIORITY CUSTOMERS believe they have the right to run my account for me ?

Yes - I am disabled but have NEVER defaulted on any payments and have always paid my bills on time

I SIMPLY cannot communicate via Speech - does that give them the right to treat me any differently ?

No - I should sue them under the EQUALITIES ACT

Better discounts are offered to new customers as an incentive for them to join. You probably benefited from one back in the day.

If you choose to jump ship and go with another provider then in 18/24 months you'll be in the same position and be able to return to Sky as a new customer.

If HD was given 'free' then the subscription income would reduce drastically. That would be lost income.

In reality they would have to raise the base price for everyone to compensate.

Satellites aren't cheap to run and HD requires a higher bandwidth than SD.

At the end of the day it's ultimately a commerical decision by Sky - but you don't have to pay it...

Any recording in HD from pay channels will be blocked as you will be asked to upgrade and future ones will need changing to SD.

Well obviously, if Sky stopped charging for HD, that would be lost income.
