“HD pack” monthly charge

Why - in 2024 - are we still being charged £14 pm extra to receive HD channels? Most channels broadcast in HD as standard these days. Over a year this amounts to £168!!

Sky choose to display the HD charge separately. For new customers I believe the HD add-on is £9 before discounts.

The flip side being if you don't want HD then you can save £168pa... (Many do)

Realistically because it's built into the pricing model and hence Sky/Comcast profit margins: removing it would either result in a significant drop in revenue or necessitate increasing the price of the base package by a commensurate amount.

It's also worth noting that for satellite broadcasting in particular, HD transmission does have a higher cost to the channels because more data transits the orbital platforms.
