My plan is this, but haven't tested it. If you sign up directly through Discovery+ Premium the first month is contract free. So you can sign up for one month and cancel, so only pay 30.99. Then you can sign into the Discovery plus app on sky q box.

Cos I only have a Discovery account because I signed up initially via Sky - then the Discovery app/website won't let me pay/upgrade outside of the Sky ecosystem.. so it looks as if I will have to create a new Discovery acct and log in with that.

It's the 21st century.. this shouldn't be this difficult

You can add TNT sports on a rolling 1 month contract through Sky for £30 which gives you access to HD and multscreen as well as updating the Discovery + app to the priemium app.

I've just done this and Sky have even ended TNT sports from 01/12/2024 for me so i'm only paying for 1 month and don't have to call them again

The only reason I didn't was because my contract is up for renewal next month and wanted a 'clean' billing cycle without added subscription charges appearing and disappearing 🙂 (and everything I want to watch is on at a reasonable time so no need to record)

I am sure that most people on this forum will know that it is easy to add a subscription like TNT Sports (pressing a few buttons on your Sky Remote) but to cancel it is necessary to ring Sky and go through a number of hurdles . You are told when you do this (but I knew this already) that in effect you were giving notice of the cancellation which would end in 30 (or 31) day's time. Having watched what cricket I wanted to at the time I rang to cancel my subscription to TNT Sports on 18th November. I was told (reminded) about the 30 days or so period and received an e-mail (which of course is still in my "Messages" box from Sky) confirming the cancellation which would take effect proper on 19th December. Having already paid the additional full £30 subscription for the month of November a few days ago I decided to sit down and watch a bit of the New Zealand /England test match starting at 10pm. It was then that I found the message, "You do not subscribe to this service". I contacted Sky the following day to say that there must be some mistake and have been in pitched battle with them ever since. Sky say that when I cancelled on 18th November I did so with immediate effect and yet my reading of their own contract rules (for SkyQ users like me but I assume they are similar to Stream/Glass users) indicates that there is this 30 day "cancellation period". Sky say not and refuse to acknowledge the fact that their own message to me gives the end date as 19th December.

To add insult to this particular injury I have been offered £17 "compensation" . which will be credited to my next bill. The point here is that having paid £30 for the month of November (and expecting to pay 19/31 of £30 for December) I have had to make a phone call to get what I was due. Sky cannot have it both ways - I either have the service until the day they told me, or (and contrary to their own contract terms) they reduce the bill without me having to make the call to ask for it . I have repeatedly asked them to forget the credit but just reinstate the service until the agreed date of 19th December but getting through to anyone - even through the channels of an official complaint - is impossible. That is the worst part of it : just having someone read off a prepared script and unwilling to see the logic and rationale of the situation.

The final point to make here is that my friend and near neighbour did exactly the same as me and on the same day and he has access to TNT Sports until 19th December. Pointing out this inconsistency to Sky had no effect.

So my purpose on coming on here is twofold - one, as you may imagine is to get this off my chest, and secondly, to ask you good people to comment on whether I am in the wrong and have misunderstood the situation.

Your comments and experiences would be helpful to me and to anyone else in this situation.

I should add that I have been a Sky customer continuously for over 30 years. I am supposed to be a VIP but rather than be given tickets to something I will never watch I would rather be treated fairly and be allowed to enter into a conversation with someone who I can engage with and understand.

Thank you for taking the time to read this rant. Comments please

Bryan

PS Apologies if this has turned up twice not used to posting onthis forum (or its just my age!)

Bryan, I feel your pain..I'm just about to embark on the same journey. I only wanted TNT for the Six nations. The blurb Sky put out when promoting TNT is it's a rolling 1 month contract and you can cancel any time. What that fail to include is that it would be easier to climb Ben Nevis than cancel what is pitched as an roloing ie cancelable contract.
I'll start the process tomorrow and see where I get. Unfortunately for Sky, my EE contract is due for renewal and the deal for broadband and TNT is way more attractive and, as I've been with EE since the Orange days (and had absolutely no issues), they will be getting my business.

What a bunch of Charlatans.

Bryan, sounds to me that you haven't done anything wrong! When I took out TNT it was clearly stated in the T&Cs that there was a notice period of 31 days for cancellation. Hence why I rang them the following day to cancel. I really don't understand why you were informed that cancellation took effect immediately, especially as you had an email confirming 19 Dec as expiry date. Seems that some of their call centre staff may need further training, I'd have thought that by going through the complaints procedure someone at Sky customer service would have been able to resolve it satisfactorily for you. Obviously not!

I am also a long standing VIP customer and to be fair to Sky the service I have received over the years has been pretty good. However, it's certainly a lot more difficult to actually speak to someone now than it used to be.

Thank you Robbo15 and Nigeljh: it gives me comfort that I am not going completely mad!

Let us know Robbo how you went on and in particular whether the call centre staff specifically refer to the 30 day notice period and whether you get an e-mail with the 30 day end date in.

For your information I have copied below the reply I had from the Sky Complaints team. I have reponded by telling that I am not satisfied with the reply and have asked them to refer the matter to a senior member of staff. No response as yet but I will post one if and when it arrives. There is an intersting reference you will see to the "dedicated team" which in the context of the response suggests that it is a team just dealing with complaints - and maybe therefore more senior, or with specific training in such matters. I rang the number and of course it just turns out to be the normal members of staff where once again I went round in circles trying to explain a problem and issue that they had no clue about. Standards have certainly slipped at Sky over the years. I just wonder what things will be like when these places are just full of AI robots.

Here is the response from Sky:

Thank you for your email about the TNT Sports.

I am writing in response to your recent email outlining the issues you encountered with your TNT Sports subscription.

Firstly, please accept our sincere apologies for the frustration and inconvenience this matter has caused.

Upon reviewing your account, we have identified that the TNT Sports subscription was indeed set to be inactive from 20th November 2024 as per your cancellation request.

We understand your disappointment in being unable to access the channel despite having paid for the service.

We have noted the credit of £17 on your account, which has been adjusted to your December bill to account for the period during which you could not utilise the TNT Sports subscription.

We acknowledge your concerns regarding the discrepancy in the cancellation date and the unilateral termination of the contract.

We assure you that we take your feedback on the customer service agent's response seriously and will address this internally to prevent similar experiences in the future.

In order to provide further assistance and clarify the situation, we kindly ask you to contact our dedicated team on XXXXXXXX between 9am and 8pm.

For further billing information, current and future payments, make payments online and much more, you can access this online using the My Sky Link below;
https://www.sky.com/myaccount/bill

I hope this information has helped with your enquiry.

The bigger problem is that it easy to subscribe but they make it all but impossible to cancel. The website options, as they well know, don't work, and whatever time of day you call there always "a minimum 30-minute wait time".

Does anyone know how you can cancel?

Sadly almost all the UK call centre staff, who were excellent, have been laid off and you are now left to deal with pot luck of an overseas call centre which sadly seems to also be unerstaffed and undertrained
