Sky Sports + Freezing

Is there ANY way to stop Sky Sports + constantly freezing and stuttering and dropping to awful pixelated quality?! PLEASE someone help sort this issue out it's on every single football match every single time I use it!

Are you referring to the main channel 404 content or matches that can appear via the red button? I'm watching Wolves v Stoke without a problem.

Although it doesn't sound like a one off problem for you, it would help if you can specify any specific games you are having problems with so we can check our feeds.

Do you have Netflix - if so can you go to the app and select the Left hand menu & then select Get Help & then Check your Network and let us know what Connection Speed it shows for you

The app, anything in the app just freezes all the time, I have Port Vale Crewe on and I am now 7 minutes behind live due to constant freezes.

Update: just been on live chat to sky, the old 1TB SKY Q boxes basically cannot handle the amount they are being asked to do with streaming so they are sending me a new 2TB UHD box, this is a known issue and all 1TB non UHD boxes will

suffer this issue they said.

Watching Port Vale v Crewe.

Netflix says speed is 80mb.

SKY Q box is wired with Ethernet and I have 150mb Sky Fibre.

I admit I haven't heard of this problem with the older non UHD boxes but it I do think it could well be part of the issue.

They were really just designed for Satellite reception & downloads etc before apps took off

Many of us here do have 2TB boxes (or 1TB UHD) so do not have the same experience

Hopefully a 2TB will sort this out for you

BTW For a doorstep swap don't forget to take out your viewing card before handing your old box over

Same picture quality issues watching Barnet v Cheltenham. Mine does not freeze but the picture quality drops reguarly so that picture is very blurred. I have a 1TB non-UHD box too, but watch many other apps with no issue (BBC iPlayer, HBO, Disney, ITVx, Discovery).

I tried to check bandwidth via Netflix but could not get to left hand menu, only sign in or learn more options.

Apologies I am being sent a 1TB UHD box not a 2TB box, hopefully it will sort the issue! Never had any problems last season but they have ramped up what the sky sports + app does now and it is a lot more resource hungry than before.
Mine picture, as well as freezing keeps going very blurry, essentially low quality like you have with the Barnet match. Get on to live chat and ask for a new box.

The 1TB UHD boxes are as powerful as the latest 2TB UHD boxes (the only difference is the HDD size) so hopefully this will indeed cure your problems. - With the speed showing in Netflix as 80Mb it certainly does point to the box rather than connectivity

BTW although I don't watch football I did switch to the PortVale/Crewe Game for a few mins (which was during the break but still had a feed) and had no problems at all, which again points to a problem, potentially with your box

Do let us know how you get on with the new box

Although I know it isn't the same due to screen size, but if you have a Tablet or PC you may find you get a better experience without the stuttering using the SKY Sports app/website whilst you wait for the new box.

80Mb is more than enough for a HD stream (and even UHD) so I don't think the connection speed explains the problems. More likely a CPU bottleneck in the older boxes although this is the first time i've heard of Sky claiming older boxes don't work properly with certain apps, and with Sky customer service recent habbit of making up nonsense just to end the call it might not even be true.

just goto the skysports.com website - it is available via the website rather than an app these days

Tell them sky sports plus app is freezing and awful quality, they will do the usual ask you to reboot the box and internet etc (which I had already done anyway) and then they will admit these old boxes can't handle the new "sports hub" sky sports app and send you a new box.

Just for confirm, I received my new Sky Q 1TB UHD box today and am currently watching Swindon v Port Vale on sky sports plus app with not issues at all, the freezing and poor quality have stopped. A family member watching the same game on an old 1TB non UHD box is having stuttering and freezing issues. So seems Sky are going to have to replace every single old Sky Q box with a newer one if they want to keep adding streaming demand to Q!

If you do have the older 1TB non UHD box then it seems that may not be able to handle the streaming via the SKY Sports app. We suggest that you contact SKY and ask them to switch the box to a later UHD box
