Hi all,

I'm cancelling my Sky contract as I'm now end of contract and the price rises over the last couple of years have been crazy, particularly since much of the content that once would have been part of the packages has moved over to streaming apps.

I tried to negotiate the prices down, but got nowhere so I thought it would be interesting to compare pricing with others to see if we can definitively establish what a good deal looks like so here goes. Can anyone top the following

Sky Signature - £25.00

Ultimate TV Pack - £5.50

Netflix Premium - £9.49

Sky Kids - £4.00

Sky Sports Complete Inc Sky Sports - £9.00

Sky Cinema - £14.00

Sky HD - £4.00

Sky 3D - £0.00

Sky Go Extra - £0.00

Ultra HD - £1.00

Total Bill - £73.00

This package was £59.50 when I signed up two years ago and was due to become £77.99 post contract end.

I was annoyed not only because of the percentage increase, but because it is not the whole story in that I'm also now paying £15.00 for apps to access content at UHD quality that would once have been on Si-Fi / Sky Atlantic / Sky Cinema.

The way I see it is that a nearly £35.00 (52%) increase over a two year period to access broadly the same content is an unreasonable ask. I believe Sky could do better. Do you have a deal that proves it?

I believe 2017 was the last year any manufacturer released a 3D television set, but, for what it's worth, many models of projector have retained that functionality (largely because it's really cheap to implement on such hardware)

I think i will likely sack off any TV service other than freeview, and then use the pause option to rotate between streaming platforms so I've only got one or two running in any given month.

A few people on other forums have shared screenshots of retention offers they've had recently. It seems Signature at £20, Kids at £2, HD at £0 and Cinema at £9 are pretty common pricepoints so why the agent I spoke to couldn't do something like that for me I don't know.

Now I know that they've given others better deals than they were willing to offer me it has somewhat hardened my position and any doubts I had about giving notice to cancel rather than backing down and accepting the new pricing has kinda evaporated.

Fair comment @pjhaahl sometimes we give up at the first hurdle nothing stopping you from trying again if you have the screenshots quote the prices from there and see if they can match it if they can't walk away. There is always Sky Stream deals for new customers if you haven't tried Sky Stream before or even Now TV

The Father in Law shared his Sky Q "re-contract offer" with me this week, a quite frankly obscene £192!

That does include broadband (a fine for them 150Mbps, but incredibly overpriced at £44 then 'Broadband Boost' on top), no multiroom, no UHD, no Cinema, no kids, standard Netflix etc. but Sky and TNT Sports.

My parents have been presented an offer to recontract Sky Q at £163, yet they have the same package + Multiscreen and Unlimited calls with 100Mbps Broadband (their broadband and calls offer is £36).

There simply isn't "best pricing" with Sky, there is what is available at the time and only you can decide if it is worth it.

Judging by the parental conversations I've had recently and taking into account the above "deals", Sky are about to lose another 2 customers who have been so for 20+ years.

They won't move to live TV streaming and both have rued the inability these days to just pick up the phone and "talk to those lovely people in Scotland" if they needed help. I doubt they are alone.

Comical update on my renewal / cancellation.

After giving notice last week, I got a call from the retentions team asking why I cancelled and if there is anything they could do. I said it was purely about the price increases.

After a few moments of furious typing the agent said good news, If you renew for another 24 months I can get your price down to £92!

I said "That doesn't make sense. My current bill is £73.99 and it was about to go to £78.99 on a rolling contract because I'm losing a £5 in contract discount on Sky signature."

The agent said, "Yes but now I'm giving you new customer discounted pricing for 24 months."

I laughed
