It goes completely off, makes a high pitched whirring noise, I have to unplug about 3 times then put it back on until it sets again, feels like the box is broken or something it's benn getting worse recent weeks

Sounds like you'll need to contact Sky and potentially get the box swapped.

If you do need a new box remember to remove the viewing card from the faulty box before it disappears into the back of the couriers van and accept any new power cable DPD deliver with the replacement box in case it's different to the one you have.
